[Music] this is the full in-depth review of the TaylorMade m4 ions in this video we're gonna see if the technology that term acclaim from ribcor giving us more ball speed for speed slot space lots are they giving us any more forgiveness I've tested in the 4i and the 7-iron and the pitching wedge on GC quad with pro-v wands and not only that taken out on the golf course and see now actually games in a real game situation and they're going to give it all the day - all the information answer your questions and then give you my final conclusion of the new tailor-made and for ends [Music] the new tailor-made m4 ions these are the kind of oversize the big version of the m3 ions packed with similar piece of technology so telemeter claim in this new rib core is giving extra forgiveness on off-centered hits you've got the face slots and the speed slots these are things that we've seen before with tailor-made ions going back from almost our si1 days we've seen these featuring m1 and m2 I'm really the only big difference here now is the rib core technology across the back is they're claiming is giving more stability therefore more ball speed and more forgiveness these ions are strong loved it so I've got the 7/4 and the pitching wedge the 7-iron is an incredible 28.5 degree of loft so it is strong pitching wedge is forty three point five and the four iron is a staggering 19 degrees loft which really is almost like a 2 iron in my books so these ions are packed full of power but that powers really in my opinion coming from the extra strengthening of the lofts now you do look very smart and interesting that I think these actually almost look more filled with technology packed full of features than the m3 Islands but these actually come in at a lower price point it's not expensive these are coming in at 750 pounds for a full set or 900 dollars so there's still top end of the spectrum but roughly a hundred pounds slash a hundred dollars cheaper than the m3 ions and for no real reason I don't see there being massive benefit reasoning for why these are cheaper at all let's have a look at some of the performance when I tested these on GC quad with pro-v walls and what we see when I tested these is I was expecting these to go a long way and really I wasn't massively disappointed I look at the 7-iron distances and again this is twenty-eight point five degrees of lofts a mega mega strong this was carrying 188 yards on the fly the flight was penetrating in the ball fly it was coming out hot I didn't feel like the there was what was spin on the shots and that back took with the day to the spin on the 7-iron was less than 5,000 which is but really with the loft I'm expected it's below however when we look at the peak high and the descent angle the peak height was higher than the m3 at 33 yards up in the air and the lung angle was 45 point five degrees so there's some potential that these clubs can still stop on the green even though they are coming out with no spin and they're going a long way I'm gonna see if that's the case on the golf course when I took him out I hit the four iron as well the four iron was carrying at 220 yards descent angle was coming in at 36.8 and 27 yards up in the air so a little bit flatter flight and again typical low spin 3000 rpm spin you see that sometimes we'd like drivers are three woods to get that with a four iron but again we're talking about a 19 degree for iron it's gonna go a long way the theories for this set of golf clubs is the four iron for a higher handicapper golfer which really these clubs are aimed at can they create enough power to get a 19 degree for iron up in the air there's more way across the bottom of the golf club but I still wouldn't say they were particularly easy on the longer hits and some of the shots that hit with the m4 iron didn't really go great and some of them felt pretty awful with the four irons both of the m3 and the m4 I saw some shots as well with the pitching wedge pitching wedge is 43.5 degrees of loft I was carrying this at 141 yards which again is a big hit peak height was 32 yards of them yeah the Sun angle was 50 degrees pretty much and the spin rate on the pitching wedge was still pretty low at only 8,000 the only thing that's gonna make that ball stop on the green is the descent angle and the peak height not so much to spin the spin numbers are low on these clubs which really are just a factor in that the fact that they've got low lofts and that's the big thing if we look at some of the shots that I hit 7-iron this was shot them before this was really nice absolutely for shutting them before and shot them a5 I nearly actually hold it I would see a tendency just to going a little bit too far to the left with a lot of the clubs certainly the harder I hit them I seem to be getting different lying goals the shaft match just been a little bit softer than what I'm used to and I was getting some shots down to peel too far to the left because the toe started to go down a little bit one of the interesting ones is that on the pitching wedge because of the loft I was expecting it to carry nearer to a 150 yards but that wasn't the case and it kind of averaged at 1 for 1 and when we looked at that spectrum then between 188 with the 7-iron and 220 with the 4-iron there's not much of a gap to squeeze a 5 and a 6 iron in there I mean that gap is 30 yards so to be able to get a couple of you're looking 15 yards between each Club on the long end if we got the other side of the spectrum from 188 yards with a 7 down to one for one I mean that's nearly 50 yards and you already got two clubs now you've only got a 899 to cover effectively almost a 50-yard spectrum which is you're putting a lot of pressure on your eight and nine irons to get distance and then if you did hit your waist that far how many wedges do you need how many gap wedge is how many sandwiches lob wedges are you gonna need to carry because in my opinion hitting wedge that far is always gonna have issues at the short end of the bag when I was hitting the shots I did like the the feel I wouldn't say they're the greatest sound they're a little bit louder a little bit clicking but I did actually like the feel and they felt like they were not soft but similar to the m3 iron they were receptive enough they had a nice feel off the face and not perfect to my liking but not massively offensive either so numbers on GC quad and pro-v ones were pretty good I wasn't blown away but some bad shots I hit well and some of the good shots were fantastic and I expected them to be longer that's what these clubs are designed to do they're designed to go long [Music] so I took these clubs out in the golf course again I've only got four seven and pitching wedge but wants to test them in different situations this is the one of the tee shots hit with the four eyed and the first shot I hit a little bit Toa it got down there it wasn't great it wasn't pretty but it did find the fairway and in the second shot I absolutely crushed right on the middle great flight great ball flight penetrated again why would expect to see more from a two iron or a three iron but got me in prime position as I got down there to my surprise the one from the toe the first shot and actually truck traveled further it was still in the fairway but west side of the fairway but the one that hit flush was right in the middle of the fairway so I was really shocked with that completely because I really thought the first one was gonna be way shorter and way further to the left then a hit from that those spots that I hit seven irons into the green the flag was about what 80 pin back left I hit the 7 irons crushed both of them they came out visually very high visually with no spin so I was a bit scared with where they were gonna hold the green and both shots held the green one of them wanted just shot and hot song and the other one landed on a little bit of a ridge hot Sun and then spun off to the left-hand side no fear that they wouldn't stop so that was a good sign because really height and descent angle overweighed how little spin you get on these clubs so so far so good out on the golf course I don't hit some of the pitching wedge kids on the next hole one out the real deep stuff and then one out the semi stuff a semi grass and actually both hit the green nicely and both stopped quickly as well I found that turf interaction was good I felt like the flights were good and if I'm honest I kind of started to like the clubs a little bit more on the golf course they didn't again quite fit my personal preference on feel and sound but they weren't overly ridiculously either I wasn't hitting a shot and and embarrassed by the sound looking at my playing past think you know that sounds too loud that wasn't the case that actually sounded good when I flushed him out the middle and performance so far was was good a light I played a couple of little dinky shots or could played some controlled shots and all of them kind of worked a little bit to my surprise I didn't air my I didn't hit any fifty yards too long which I thought I was going to do but I respected the loft and I respected the fact that they were going to go long so when I'm looking at the product from here and I'm looking at kind of who they're aimed at I'm seeing that you know dry once hit the ball further guy wants a little bit of help where our theater for this product is in the four I and the five iron I just don't see that person generate enough speed to get that shot up in the air and to get it to fly correctly and that's where maybe this set set stops at a five iron and then the rest of the set starts to building with hybrids because that's the only way I see really realistically working for most golfers would be using this a slightly higher handicap let's answer some of your questions about the m4 and then we'll give it a final conclusion [Music] okay so questions coin in from you guys and really it's the guy who has m2 irons does he need to move into this so M two irons about two generations worth and then they brought out the m4 Drupa told I think these are so similar to m2 it's unreal apart from having a facelift and possibly aesthetically just a little bit nicer looking I don't see much of a difference in performance from when I've tested this and m2 iron the same noise the same noise problems whether a little bit loud and clicky similar flight characteristics similar distances so unless you're just working for a club that looks newer and looks a little bit more of a fresh m2 I don't think you're gonna see a massive difference and the big thing as well talking about m4 versus m3 is why is the m4 cheaper this is a question that was firing around after the first look first here a trooper told I'm not entirely sure I feel that this is just as good a quality this go does look if not better look packed with as much technology as the m3 iron so I don't see why there is that much of a difference in price and we're talking $100 I see are 100 pounds and I also feel the guy with m4 irons might even get these slightly cheaper because is that golf we're gonna pick the four iron in the five iron when really it's a club that they might not be able to use so you can almost go six iron down to pitching wedge so already you've brought the cost down and the cost that you save you pack into some good quality wedges and some good hybrids and you've got yourself a decent set so don't see why there's much of a price difference but really at the golfers going to be using these take advantage because if you're going to get these a little bit cheaper than filling your bag with wedges and some hybrids and you've got a pretty pretty awesome set to be helping you improve your golf for this year okay so the conclusion and four irons and the first question I've been carrying on with this review theme is would they go in my bag not this style because they're a little bit too chunky they're far too strong for me and I think there's some benefits to an iron like this I think the very confident building I think for the guy who wants to hit is in 7-iron or 7-iron longer and further than the mates that they play with yes this is the set because the lofts are strong you know you're going to hit it further so this seven nine isn't that seven iron it's a five iron we've talked about this before but in fairness to the club and to the designers the strip's enough weight down to the bottom and the money's gonna make the ball go high enough with enough descent angle to still get the ball to stop that's a big skill because as soon as you start strengthen that loft they become unplayable to a degree but these aren't unplayable they still work I think they've got levels of forgiveness whether the feed slots face locks are doing loads of magic work it's hard to really test but from the miss hits that I hit I found good performing shots so one got my bag just cuz it doesn't quite fit where my game is but I do believe it has lots of great features for some golfers out there but really if you're gonna look at getting these have a look at last year's em to have a look at even the year from prior to that em twos you might pick a bit more of a bargain as opposed to the m4s but don't be put off by trying these as well I'd love to your thoughts down below if you get a chance to try them fors can you hit the long irons and do they go to the distances that you would like to see my concerns are the gapping and my concerns are the sound and the feel that you get from these irons thanks watching guys hopefully you've enjoyed the video if you have cut out thumbs up on it's free to subscribe to my got in your hands there today I have got an exciting tailor-made m4 I'm tailor-made m4 ironbark Rothschild here as well we'll show that in a second sorry guys I'm here as well hit a few shots we're gonna talk a little bit about m4 do you want to bring it up muttering opposed what you got there so m4 iron this is the more game improvement out of all of them as I understand it is that correct I believe that is correct yeah and what we got on the back of it you've got a bit of technology so we've got this ripcord technology that they've put into this - obviously wedges what I can see from here are sort of two wedges running down from the top of the head down to the bottom so they're stiffening I think they are to stiffen up the face too much flex in certain places can lose energy yeah that's what that's correct cool then we move it over we've obviously got this speeds if you pop it right up to the camera there that's shown so you got the slots on the bottom and on the face and also on the face here yeah so again on the face here any toe and heel strikes are still maintaining the ball speed with the Flex from these particular slots okay and then also on the back you've got the Nova Corps than you people who watch guardians of the galaxy will know what that means I'm not sure little rib cool yeah so again trying to keep ball speeds up across the face as well isn't it already mentioned that ring was already set up yeah we're a bit confused on now now I get really saying yes so the thing where were confused correct a few you can hit one if you want down let's see how that applies to what you think about it you've got stiffening but then you've also got flexing it's a bit of a I've been getting a bit of a mixed message with that I'm sure they know what they're up to and not within a 7-iron so I'll show you some numbers of a 7-iron yeah hit me to agree that's 170 yards the lock of the seven arms 28.5 yeah ugly slots Ian Murray says good morning from America it's tea time is it too what do you think of the slot here Marissa's terribly I don't think they're ugly I think it actually frames the face quite nicely yeah I've always thought that with the slots even though I don't really feel like they're doing much because I've played many times about slots I also feel like they frame up yes let's just be clear that the slots are filled lots of people leaving today they say oh what sort of much they get in there they are very much filled there I press my thumb in there it's this bit spring so I think that's a bit of rubber kind of in there yes get up damn strong lofts yeah 700 28.5 very sound is quite clicky it's a nice sound I wouldn't say it's that tinny sound I wouldn't say that that is that's the case on this head so top lines as well ugly you're okay actually very nice very for a game improvement iron I would say it's not too chunky yeah yeah okay that's good and then I've got her ask I know you don't like me asking this but we do need to talk about offset there is some yeah and I was actually just thinking about that go on I've always are I don't think it's over it's not overpowering you've not been overpowered by the hit it bad it 28.5 is a 5-line well correct sounds like wood come on down it's fine much 6-iron it's fine it's what this thing's you getting on that last one was one six eight numbers one six eight carry so we got one green out there 170 we're hitting a 7-iron as marked on and you've got no problem hitting that green it's going 6-iron lens yes it is and supremacy we market it it looks like a sick time yeah it looks like a sick time with the loss on it if I pick that up not looking at the bottom of the club I would tell you okay one more and I'm looking forward to having a go nice shot granddad say now I don't think there is a never seen a set of tail you made irons that I wouldn't ever gain to be honest we're going to pick up on that Rock says chunky of these slots and then somebody else that I asked animators forgiven me I don't think you got the owner editing machine going there yeah we have a fluted neck on the production one yes we do the demo that we've got here has no fluted neck no we're a bit confused about that so you've got a bit of technology that isn't on the demo now down made at the point which I could probably agree with the demo obviously is carved out inside and it's got this hole you know probably you'll lose where they have a fluted neck which is the ribs are neck to save weight so they can pack it in other places you can argue that they're losing weight there so on and so forth how much care they've put into that demo equipment in relationship to that I can't answer just a little point with their demo equipment it's a seven iron it down house here that you can screw on and that's all it is yeah now I know what this tab and I will do and will show you because it does what these kind of 28.5 not seven nine to do let's get a go the sick time distance for me one hundred and sixty five hundred seventy yards in yes that's one six three in the air that's what my six is obviously you've got it might get higher and all those other things in a second but for me it's just a little bit I know what I was going to do I wanna know what I don't know what you're gonna do because we're gonna start cranking looks like this it's either end when you start seeing some funny gap so I also want to know if it me what 5-iron will do and could I hit a fluoride as well instead of the seven I so only providing a seminar and for me it strikes a little bit what this ayah the way meeting the main were designed are about when it comes to services fitting that make no sense I mean I would you've got the thin stuff here and I wouldn't say you're really offer the best thing in the world was this club compared to love equipment where you've got more cups no I would agree with that I've got I've got plenty of fitting kit in here and and you're always you know I've got lots of tightness stuff in here but I can fit right the way through the bag yeah in Titleist whereas I can't another products which is a shame and I hope they do change yeah but I want to change it because I think it would be fair for people buying these clubs which do perform well you know what they are it sounds a little loud but okay it looks good how much pushing it up in the air in its power back for all intensive purposes yeah it's going in the distance I'd expect this lofted Club to go the swaps are ugly I breathe down their throat frame the wall up quite well honestly think ten domain of make quite nice looking kind of powerful I as long as they don't get too crazy they do something a bit crazy like this middle bracket one almost look as good as anything yeah so I think it's just a shame that that option is not there for more people so attack saying he gains the rocket blades yeah and it seems a good name no this is what's okay so we've got dawn so here we go all right question for the viewers and if you're watching this not live obviously still comment down below if you like in their lives or any more videos mature yet thumbs up but don't refrain to subscribe when those kind of thinking things that all of us youtubers tend to get on them do it a bit and name the set of iron's from TaylorMade that kind of resonate there kind of stay in people's mind so if we go ping ping I - you know it was a game changer for sure if your tightest ap range has been around for ages they kind of resonate they stay there so it's a brand within a brand that keeps going Callaway I would say around X 12 X 16 you pick the number that X range was one Mizuno MP range keep going being around for years they just keep resonating strong backgrounds within a company because the product is tested and views I've got mister company out there but the main players when it comes to irons and TaylorMade I feel and this one even though I think it's good and shouldn't stop you from going try this it just feels a little bit like I let's try that's just personal ribcor on and let's throw some fluid necks and just put slots over its everything out here and then in a year's time if you're lucky it changes model and then it's something else and then it nothing sticks but I keep throwing everything out of it but nothing sticks so it makes me feel a little bit like they're ions are a bit throw away does that make sense yeah groovy and then don't throw away in performance obviously can't quite and I don't know if it's to do with marketing as in they're putting all their efforts into twisting faces and all that kind of stuff all right sorry about sticking your monitor I know it was a product but who won't walk with Latin Morrissey given us I set up Cynthia but they stick around for no cartoons around for years a p2 or a peerage as being around foetus NEP range of being around such I played when I was a kid to this is that not well me em range yes that's only been doing everyone before that was the car range I think yeah yeah but I mean none of them to stick in people's minds today so yeah I mean everything about it it's a good product can you just show my pig hearts down can you get to my peak heights up on the screen up there we're just going to show the peak Heights because this is the other big story that people talk about going for so just to review I think it looks good it sounds a little out fine I think there's a game improvement irons at the category I guess it did you're gonna go and test it it looks great it's crowded enough so it's a 7-iron to giving you six sided performance this is where I worried with this argument not only do I worry with the wedges and then or nine irons up to whatever your long design is what gaps your that's with mine is mine he might yeah is thirty degrees so my six I'm bladed six I'd the peak height is around 32 32 34 yards not degree to the arts 30 yet yeah so this isn't going particularly higher and you're gonna remember I'm swinging this at 84 85 miles an hour whatever I'm treating a certain amount of that this is what really worries me now this will kick in money if I just hit yeah if I get a shot which has 700 on the bottom 28 and a half degrees of loft but I swing that speed and I tell you when I'm teaching golf and I was four years that is a very common golfer hitting a serve an iron now as far as that 7-iron gone 104 yards and I know not too out there you all think you carry so that's going a hundred twenty yards hundred and fifteen yards seminars most golfers all affair they all hit me all to agree by holding on but I know you will think you ate your 750 but the distance report that we talked about this week proves the average is not doing that they're more than this seven out of range peak height of that last one is 13 yards 13 yards in the air and it's going carried 1 to 2 let me just show you something I know you're ATP to mate I'm now I've come back to in Carlsbad when I was lucky enough to talk to iron designs it I talked about this with them because this is an addictive tailor-made all the manufactures are going this way toy list included not the strongest but they're top they're getting people all strengthening lofts this is a golf pro talking who works with both students 13 yards one to two carry so that's an 8-iron attempting the swing around the same speed so this is an 8-iron p2 much truer in its loft what a nightline should be competitive really a 7-iron that we're calling 6i that one is flown that's carried a hundred and nine bond to those last two at the bottom yeah it comes down here on this yellow plane that's 109 and $108 flat so we're playing a hole which has so it's gonna be the same one to two with the mp4 6-iron yeah one to one with an 8-iron we pipe 20 yards to 13 you've got 13 with the six not seven iron like you said the stroke 611 joystick time and then you've got 20 yards in height would be a time yeah yeah so if people want to start thinking that this isn't 82 this would be the same if you went the more chiral oxygen tailor-made or I picked up a Mizuno or a Callaway or a pen it's not about AP to m4 it's not about that it's that loss and swing speed and Mort you have players which is the mass players out there they start losing or don't have the speed what happens when you take loft away from them it really hurts them well as a student sorry had to count teaching students whenever I had students struggling with certain shots we always played with love delivered or physical on the clock taking that away in a circle game improvement the people that helps the most and these people you're watching reviews on people like me who's swinging at a certain speed that get the most out of these could be high normal to low spinning you get these bond walls which look all impressive on the MIDI notes but I've been saying it for years don't be seduced by that B can be played in anything left and right we always win that's just that idea around a lot not about brand just to make that I don't care if you do that test retain you may be tailor-made or whatever it just becomes like pick up if you want to get a few just to finish off there there yeah that's good I like you like it as a I don't mind how much gimmicky tech feels like he's preying on it in my opinion it all feels a bit gimmicky like you know just then just throw everything out of it and then I'd next year start throwing at it again I would like them just to settle in with a brand that they get behind for a longer intact that they stand behind you know the ping g700 iron hasn't really changed that massively from do you 400 iron particularly their truths you're right yeah exactly they're still quite true to what their original premise is because they're good at building clubs and then now test them in the 600 fine lines and set yeah battery say yeah there's no point in the plane yeah so I mean this is just a quick one dancer Lewis says down doesn't play with love get up handicap rains the end clip m4 is aged for Jimmy Jimmy I don't really do reviews like on clubs like that it's aimed at a mixed bag to be honest with you you could get some tall players you fancy gaming a 4-iron or three I'd make one in this club so it's it's more about what you want to get out your cup filled up the pigeonhole it's a handicap I think that some of them magazines did for years just because if what resonated with the readers I person despotism interested she ought to relatively positively with them I like it yeah we should definitely try it very solid strikers me very solid for me things upset me the fitting options in a joke yeah I mean at the twenty eight point five degree 7-iron what is the longest iron they shoot game in that set if a student came to me now and asked that question I think well no I wouldn't know and I wouldn't be a test because I'm gonna hear that's true so it's like you know where other ones they would say what club should I have well what clubs have you got lost on your clubs you stop there you can compare it that way or you've got bags of clubs ago right hit before I know that they're low that are slipping a hybrid yeah let's just have a bit more commitment to the gold for a tea and come on I know your business but people won't service as well that's just just everyone's clear but that's my opinion all right thanks very much I thank you you haven't hit the thumbs up button already get it showing the funds up there was a thumbs up look like yeah that's the one personal notes as always thank you always for joining in and we'll speak to you soon I'm
TaylorMade M4 Iron Review With Launch Monitor Data
Video Transcription
I welcome every smite need some down here at Lytham Golf Academy brand new products in my hands here it's a tailor-made and for iron so I'll see much talked about new releases from TaylorMade you don't do things by heart in terms of building up for a launch of a new product but obviously an m3 and m4 so today we're going to look at the m4 iron now m14 it's gonna be your straight replacement for last year's m2 iron which for us here and I think for many retailers was a was a massive selling I know a very long hitting powerful golf club very forgiving and basically giving to some golfers out there more yards out on the golf course now maybe the one downside that was the spin but was quite low and we did sort of see that through fitties so typically with a 7-iron we used to see somewhere between sort of for maybe four and a half thousand as a spin number which was quite low so as always that issue and maybe holding the green when it came to long distances obviously their ball speed was obviously there but maybe struggling to sort of stop it a little bit more when it came to land now after Amelia claiming m4 is a highest spinning product of change the waiting in the head here similar technology to the MT with the face slots healing so which have been improved okay and then you've got obviously the sole slot there so getting that self on the ball speed across the face but what the new tirage you've got in these eyes is the rib corner this is where these two sort of ribs that are on this or toe in the heel section of the golf with the back of basically supporting the face a little bit more here but also taking way to take a mass obviously saving it on the on the fluted hosel there and other areas of the golf club the save some weighting and then the repositioned that into the heel and the toe so basically with more mass in the heel and the toe section helps to reduce any twisting so it makes it basic mo eye gets greater so less twisting more straight to golf shots but then it's more energy going into the middle of golf club changing the CG in the head here as well which is going to change your spin number so would be interesting to look at that through or cgc to testing today whether we see that difference of spin member so let's get underway so I've got seven here just collecting the standard KBS max shaft in stiff here which is the stock shaft for the m4 iron I've set myself up here at about 185 yards from the from the flag here which is probably typically for this type of distance now seven our loss is 28 and a half degrees same loft as the m2 so exactly the same here but the claiming bit more forgiveness straight to golf shots which would be really interesting to see and a little bit higher spin numbers let's see if we see those changes okay so as we preserve that golf club down by the golf ball it looks very very similar to the m2 I think shape wise is very similar maybe the top hedge does look a little bit thicker than m2 up maybe just do a separate video here and just compare them side-by-side so we've seen that a little bit of offset as you can expect from this type of iron barely sort of meaning too thick top edge we've got a chrome polished heel-toe section there again that was saw in the m2 I had sort of dispersed when I hit okay so quarter allows the sound that was a little bit off the bottom of the Gulf about 175 spin 5900 now it was a bit low in the face that's possibly why that spin mat just crept up there but I'll still hit some more trying found a bit of the golf ball yeah that's a better strike I felt really solid just push that a little bit just missing the green yeah it's mystics it's light it's the ride to the green there but with more alignment now it's white some carryout good carry distance spinning at 5,800 we're seeing a different spin number straightaway there and that was a good strike so possibly backing up a little bit what tell me the Clavin here and obviously they've identified a bit of an issue with spinning on the pasta them to their this is definitely a highest spinner but we'll look at it as an average bull that's that's that's quite promising to start off with okay again solid strike maybe it's just a tiny bit lower in the cliff face but hitting the green quite nice to that and what should we stop and pretty quick first that carried 185 was the perfect strike that spun just under five thousand three hundred so not a bad spin number therefore a twenty eight and a half degree lofted iron yeah a nice solid strike there again hitting that green quite nicely again looks we stopped pretty quick so that was 185 carried their spirit 5600 so we're seeing a different spin on model here against m2 so sort of backing up what Turner made sort of claiming here so let's have a look at those numbers little bit more detail and see how new m4 is performing right let's look at some numbers here than guys so club head speed average in that round that 95 mark which is pretty normal for me with a 7-iron ball speed at 128 so you can see that first one is the one a court was a worse strike to be fair I caught that one quite low in the club face there so you see that drop off of ball speed at 124 should pull that average down and again cuz I caught it low slight bit thin edge pull the launch down really low so that was well worst hit of the of all the shots here so did watch a little bit on the lower side here but spin number is very very sort of different now you know averaging at five 704 there as an average so as I said earlier very difficult typically we see them to sort of four and a half thousand bit reach five it did really well so I think that CG placement change in the head here has definitely changed that spin Norman was sort of seeing that here descent angle coming in at 44 peeking out 31 average carry 182 just pull down slightly with that first slide sort of miss hit there so probably averaging open to sort of 184 185 sort of mark as an average okay guys so there we have it 10:00 a.m. 4:00 a.m. with new rib chords technology in there so it's a great it's a good-looking ionic again for a game improvement iron it doesn't look hugely offset huge and chunky there we've got that chrome sort of finished so quite a similar lots of the m2i in there maybe slightly thicker top edge but they're just Shum for that a little bit he still got the opposite the fluted holes all there 108 degree fluted hosel we've got obviously face slots all slots and now obviously got this rib course a rib core after the name comes off the rib this is the two bar sections in the heel and so and the core is based of the COR which they've made great so by putting that mass into the heel on the toe they've been created create a bigger cor which is basically how quick the sort of ball comes off the clubface on-off Centex as most companies are the pretty max in the center but then making that also with a sweet spot bigger than you miss hit two keeping that ball speed up okay and so there are also claiming some straits golf shots now the straightness of those shots I have reached four yards off line as an average you know between the left the right which is quite acceptable then with the 79 it probably I'd have to do maybe more testing with that in terms of you know getting a more accurate number that ball initially that test it feels good I like the look of it it feels good it sounds really good knowing it's as loud as M - not as clicking as as loud as them - they're definitely a better sounding golf club there and flight wise look look superb so I think again this is going to be another popular iron from TaylorMade for the guys look at that forgiveness that ball speed some extra yards but very interesting with that spin them it's a different model - and - really interested so that's got a bit of stopping power obviously as it lands in degree into the green d again taken to out he is only twenty eight and a half degree lot on a seven I'm ok guys thanks very much what should you appreciate watching the videos is this something you're going to go out and try till they turn four I do comment down below let me know your thoughts on this particular area maybe all the releases of in the TaylorMade sort of family that's coming out with the m3 so yeah do comment down below please do they hate that TaylorMade M4 Irons Review - featuring Dustin Johnson
Video Transcription
[Music] I wanted to go hit it I was excited about it and I thought the technology was was really cool and interesting and you know but to me it make it make sense after hitting it and testing it a lot and I mean it works ok so you've heard a little bit there from world number one Dustin Johnson who we caught with it tailor-made launch event out in Carlsbad but this is the m4 iron I've got it in my hand here loads of cool new technology this is actually replacing the m2 iron we've got the m3 iron which is replacing the m1 iron but right this is all about the m4 which is going to be tailor-made to longest and probably most forgiving iron in the range so as I said lots of cool technology which you can see from the outside lots of visible technology from the fluid holes all got this rib core technology here we've got new materials there behind the face but like so we caught up with Tom over from TaylorMade who can tell us a little bit more about some of the finer details of this technology it's a couple of things I want to highlight here the first one is the face slots obviously cut through the face all the way I'm sure you guys already knew that but just as a reminder they're filled with an epoxy DP 400 material that basically kind of keeps the slots flush to the face you see the the big badge we actually have a much larger badge this year than last year and that helps us with even more sound damping and better sound and feel and it actually kind of wraps around the ribcor feature kind of interlocks to it and again that helps absorb more but more of that vibration because of the rib core bars and the fact that we're able to place some more weight outside that we're actually increasing the head inertia by 24% vs. m2 so dramatically better so not only are we getting more performance from the rib core bars and that and a better energy transfer we're also increasing the nourish on missed hits as well so the combination of those two things is producing dramatically more consistent shots these are some of the technologies that you've seen and we keep pushing the envelope on really how far we can cast thin dimensions and we're down to really a millimeter right now on top-line and also the leading edge area so these are super thin we we've been at 1.5 really in the MTS and we're at in the 1.0 to one point two millimeter now and those in those dimensions and those are really hard to do and just like the metal is casting we're getting better at this every year when you keep pushing a similar technology into until you're casting every year you can you can really get some nice improvements as our factories get get better technology and get more Skills okay so thanks for that Tom Oh Tom as you know really the brains behind a lot of TaylorMade's irons but we also caught up with Brian Basel he's their VP of product creation so he's also heavily involved in all of Taylor major new product we actually caught up with him at the launch event as well he can just give us a few little bit more of the details of some of the technology which is going to make the m4 i helping you play better golf so in the m4 irons we spend a significant amount of our R&D time trying to figure out how we can push the envelope of distance irons and for the last decade really starting with the cgb irons and the burner irons 10 years ago we've now been able to provide golfers with the new m4 distance height face protection and now accuracy and we're able to do it through several technologies with the newest one is ribcor the two ribs right outside the face slots all the flexibility that's happening in the face is happening between those face slots everything outside of that were typically we've lost the energy dissipated energy where it didn't help the golfer now we've controlled that and left all that energy to go into the golf ball through that rib core construction design and so you combine rib core with face slots speed pocket in the bottom even the fluted hosel which allows us to get our center of gravity down and now we have this extremely long iron that gets up easy more forgiving the m3 terms of inertia and stability and thickness of the top-line and the sole so you get a true game improvement iron but with a ton of horsepower now we wouldn't really expect Dustin Johnson the world number one to be putting a full set of tailor-made M fours into the bag as we know he plays a tailor-made piece in this is very much more a blade sort of guy these are more aimed at your high handicappers but we saw him hitting some of the four irons of this about the launch event and just put it this way you can dice it further than I can it driver so let's go and see from let's go on here from Boston just a few comments of what you know what is first impressions and what his reactions were after hitting the TaylorMade M for ions you know to me it's a it's a good looking iron you know for a big head and I've been over the past couple years I've started started to use like the you know the bigger head of to iron and stuff so which I really like you know sort preferred when you do after you the I hats I've been using back and I've gotten used to you know having a cool that there your head with a long iron just you know help the ball get in here put it a little bit perfect you know then this hits still applied pretty good so it's you know it's really nice to be able to play these and then you know hitting this one that day and I was very impressive put the flight of it you know how Faro is going and how straight it was going so anytime I can get a good driving iron okay but we don't care about Dustin Johnson she wasn't her hit handicap hacker like me has made of the tailor made em for Ryan's you know I was hitting six irons out on the range just now and so what am I looking for in a six iron I'm probably looking at my could carry 160 you know total total to 165 170 I was definitely getting getting you know those numbers my actual average carry was 160 yards average total 174 yards so I'd say that's pretty much there there abouts for a good 6-iron for me I was liking the consistency of these they launched the ball really really high really really easily which they're for some people that's going to be exactly what you need not sure I necessarily want to be launching the ball any higher than they already do but you know I could say I'm you know if I can get you know carry 160 total 175 every time of my 6-iron I'll be really really happy not custom fit for me we had quite a light we've got KBS and Max 85 shaft which I'll probably want something a little bit heavier in a little bit lower launching but as an off the shelf you know literally just picking you know picking this eye knob and giving it a hit I'm really happy with you know with those balls being number 110 miles an hour ball speed it's just working particularly in the long irons as well like say hitting a 6-iron here and you know it's definitely something that more players should think about even if you like something a little bit sleeker with your pitching wedge 9 8 I really think more people should thinking about clubs like this from sort of 6-iron 5-iron for I'd I would I would definitely be you know happy to use a club like this in the long runs in my set okay so you've got any more questions at all about the TaylorMade m4 irons you know Joe like the looks do not like the look so they're just a little bit too big and chunky for you if you want any more details on the technology post your comment below we will get back to you've got anything more about shafts or specs or lofts please just ask a question below we will get back to you straight away we really do like interacting with you guys when you have questions about golf clubs like these so thanks very much for watching and we'll see you again soon
