Ask any man who plays the game of golf what the word golf means and they will say, “gentlemen only, ladies forbidden”.
Now chances are they will be joking when they say this. But the reality is that the game of golf has a history of not being open to women.
Not only were women not marketed to, but some of the top golf companies never made an effort to design golf clubs that women would be able to use.
This is for two reasons.
First off most men didn’t want to see women playing the game of golf. And secondly, companies didn’t believe women had a true interest in the game.
Boy were they wrong…

4 Reasons You Should Buy Golf Clubs Designed For Women
One of the most common questions asked by women is why they have to buy different golf clubs than their male counterparts.
Truth be told, women don’t necessarily have to buy different golf clubs. There are however some benefits to doing so.
The Size Will Be a Better Fit
Generally speaking women tend to be shorter than men. Because of this golf clubs for women are designed to be shorter than the standard size men’s golf club.
For best results you want to make sure the length of your club is in alignment with your height. If you are a taller woman you can either opt for the +1” size golf clubs for women, or you can just go with the standard size golf clubs for men.
If you are an average height woman, or you are a little on the short side, it would be in your best interest to purchase golf clubs that were designed specifically for women.
Not only will the length be a better fit, but the lie will also work better as it will be more upright than the lie on a man’s golf club. This is due to the fact that women, because of their height, tend to stand closer to the ball when setting up.
The Clubs Will Be More Flexible
Golf clubs for women are designed to have more flexibility than golf clubs for men. If you have a slower swing having more flexibility makes it easier for you to get the ball in the air. It also makes it easier for you to get good distance on the ball.
If your swing isn’t all that fast, or you just need a little help with getting the ball to go farther, a women’s golf club would be the best option for you.
You’re More Likely To Find a Complete Set
Golf clubs marketing to women tend to be more complete than those marketed to men. This basically means you get everything you need, woods, hybrids, irons, wedges, putters, and in some cases a bag to store it all in, in one set.
Buying golf clubs in a set is a lot less expensive than buying each club individually. If you are a beginner or you enjoy playing golf causally, getting a complete set is the best way to go.
And for whatever reasons its a lot easier to find a complete set in golf clubs for women.
The Clubs Look Better
When it comes to appearance golf clubs for women look way better than those for men. The details and colors really make them stand out.
Mens golf clubs tend to be very basic as far as colors go. You won’t see much outside of black, gray, and white.
The biggest issue you may run into when it comes to appearance is a lack of colors. Manufacturers tend to believe women only like the colors pink and purple. Thankfully many are starting to venture into different color patterns.
While you have the freedom to purchase any type of golf clubs you so choose, if you are shorter and have a slower swing, it will be more beneficial for you to invest in golf clubs for women.
7 Factors To Consider When Buying Golf Clubs For Women
When it comes to buying golf clubs, be it for men or women, there are a lot of different factors you will want to consider.
Some of the physical factors you will want to consider include club length, grip size, club weight, and shaft flex.
You will also want to consider price, as well as what clubs come in the set.
Let’s break down each one of these factors a little more.
We like to start with price because for most people, that is the most important factor.
As you very well know, golf can be a very expensive sport to play. It is often the cost associated with playing golf that scares people off.
After all, there are single golf clubs that cost several hundred dollars. And while these clubs are usually built to last for several years, if you are a beginner it wouldn’t make much sense to spend such a large sum of money on a single golf club.
As a beginner you should purchase a starter set. While they aren’t as durable as the more expensive clubs, they will get the job done without breaking the bank.
They will also give you the opportunity to see if golf is really a game you want to pursue seriously before investing a ton of money.
Club length is extremely important and plays a vital role in how well you are able to hit each shot.
Take the time to look at the length of each individual club in the set. If no size is listed, or there is only one size, this more than likely means the club is the standard size.
The standard size for a 5 iron is 37” and the standard size for a driver is 43”. If you are a taller women standard size clubs should work just fine.
If you are a shorter woman you will need to get shorter clubs.
Before investing in any club take the time to look at a size chart as there are many factors that determine what size club you need.
If at all possible test the golf clubs in person. Doing so is the best way to see if the clubs are a good fit.
If you will be buying online go to your local sporting goods store and speak with a specialist. They will be able to advise you on how to ensure you are getting the right size clubs.
Graphite and steel are the two main materials used to make club shafts. Of the two graphite is the more lightweight material. Steel clubs on the other hand are a bit more heavyweight.
Most manufacturers use graphite when making clubs for women and beginners. This is because lightweight clubs are a lot easier for women to use.
You will find that most golf clubs for women are made with graphite. However, if you are a seasoned golfer and have the ability to control the club, in this case steel may be the best option.
When holding a golf club, it is the size and feel of the grip that determines how comfortable it is.
Larger grips tend to be the most comfortable. The only problem is women tend to have smaller grips.
The good news is changing the grip size on a club is easy and inexpensive. So if you find a set of clubs that you love, don’t let the grip size throw you off.
You can always have it changed at a later date.
What Types of Clubs Come In The Set
There are many different types of golf clubs that come in a set. All of which serve a different purpose.
The type of golf clubs you want in your set will depend on several key factors including your level of experience, how often you play, and the type of course you will be playing on just to name a few.
If you are someone who goes to a small driving range twice a year, your needs will be very different than someone who plays golf several times a month.
With that being said, here are the 5 types of clubs you want in your bag no matter what your level of experience.
Woods - Generally speaking you will use the woods when you are first starting out on the tee. They help you get the most distance and can be swung a lot faster than the other clubs.
Drivers and fairways also fall into the category of woods.
Irons - Irons are the most common type of golf clubs and they are used for hitting the ball from the fairway.
Irons can also be used for off the tee shots when you are playing on a course with shorter holes.
Hybrids - Hybrids are exactly what they sound like. They are a mix between a wood club and an iron.
Being that hybrids can be used to take the same shots as irons, it’s not uncommon to see golfers replace their irons with hybrids.
They basically eliminate the need for one type of golf club.
Wedges - While wedges are considered their own type of golf club, they do use the same type of heads as irons.
If you need to get out of the sand bunker, the wedge is the club you want to use. Wedges are perfect for short shots and difficult shots.
Putters - Putters do exactly what their name says they do. They help you putt the ball when you are on the putting green.
When you are ready to put the ball in the hole, the putter is the club you want to use for that last stroke.
When choosing a golf club make sure the shaft flex is compatible with your swing speed. If you are a beginner you will want a shaft that is more flexible.
The good news is golf clubs for women are designed to have more flexibility.
However, be careful as there is no standard in the industry when it comes to labeling how flexible a shaft is. You may find that a shaft labeled as “extra stiff” is the same as a shaft labeled as “stiff”.
Luckily golf clubs marketed for women tend to be on the flexible side so you really have nothing to worry about.
What Features Come With The Golf Bag
Having a golf bag is an absolute must. You should never buy a set of clubs if it doesn’t come with a bag.
Otherwise you will have nowhere to put your clubs while you are making your way around the golf course.
While most bags will be the exact same shape and style, there are certain features that can make the bags different.
Here are a few key features you should look for in a golf bag.
Straps - Just like having a golf bag is an absolute must, so is having straps on said golf bag. If there are no straps you will have a very difficult time carrying the bag around.
When it comes to straps there are three different types that you will find on golf bags. Combination straps that can be adjusted, shoulder straps, and backpack straps.
The straps you prefer will depend on how you like to carry your golf bag.
Legs - Another must have feature is legs. Legs, also referred to as stands, make it possible for the golf bag to stand upright on its own.
Most golfers, both men and women, prefer a golf bag that has legs because it makes it a lot easier to access the various clubs when you need them.
It’s a hassle when you have the lay the bag on the ground and keep reaching down to get what you need.
Rain Hoods - If you play in an area that gets a lot of rain, having a rain hood will prove to be very beneficial. A rain hood will keep your golf clubs, as well as the inside of the golf bag, from getting wet.
Pockets - Golf clubs aren’t the only thing you have to carry around the golf course with you. You also be carrying gloves, golf balls, tees, water, and anything else you may need while you are out on the course.
Having pockets to store all of these items will make it a lot easier for you to move around the golf course with ease.
As we mentioned at the beginning of this post, golf used to be man's game.
But fortunately things changed in the 21st century.
Not only have more women started playing the game of golf, but they are breaking all sorts of barriers in the process.
Because more women are starting to play the game of golf, companies are starting to design clubs specifically for them.
As time has gone on the quality of the clubs has also gotten a lot better. This is in large part due to women demanding better quality products.
While a lot of progress has been made in the game of golf, there are still a lot of women who are reluctant to try the sport.
If you are one of those women, please know golf is no longer just a club for men. According to the 2018 report from the National Golf Foundation, there were 4.9 million women age 18 and older that were golfers in 2017.
That alone should tell you it’s no longer looked at as just a sport for men.
The good news is if you do decide to take up the game of golf, you will have no problem finding golf clubs that are suited just for you.
We hope that these reviews have helped you do just that!
And remember: buying a product without testing is a dumb move.
However, in this age of internet, you can always do it with the help of reviews like we do it here at Honest Golfers. And finally, with that, it’s a wrap.
We looking forward to seeing you next time!

Mens Driver VS Ladies Driver Test - How Big Is The Difference?
I welcome it which might Newton down here at lizardom golf can we've got a little bit fun video here for you today and what I'm gonna do is test a ladies driver against obviously a GM's drive which is pretty much into mice back here so probably one very extreme to the other here maybe we're gonna have a little look at some spin numbers some large numbers some dispersion and rings with with each of these golf clubs maybe see how I've see a very flexible shaft and ladies will perform very differently to maybe the right spec you know man's now also we're going to see some differences here and some of you may be thinking well what's the point in doing this comparison but it's maybe just a little bit of fun really just to maybe see you know what the difference is how big are the differences and I think probably a lot of guys could probably play into a lady spec in terms of the softness at the shaft but I'll see you know they don't want to know well so basically I want the mates to know that the plane with the ladies club for the office of the stick they're gonna receive but be interesting wants maybe look out here so we're gonna hit I've got to made ladies driver here okay so obviously ladies land ladies grip ladies flex it's 12 degrees of loft which is generally pretty standard for ladies point up against the epic sub-zero which has got the hazardous handcrafted shaft in here in stiff and nine degrees which is a little bit more to my sort of spec for my speed and etc so and we'll start hitting a few shots with H and maybe look at some numbers okay so I'm gonna start off for the ladies driver first cause it's a cistern of ages 12 degrees office ladies shaft leads ladies lengthiest was probably good 1/2 inches shorter in length itself here okay drop that really well I'll sit quite a high ball flight there so but we're going to see they sort of climb a little bit carried out to five again strike it's gonna play quite a bit of a difference here between you know these obviously cinemas as we know but to me it feels really sort of shot softer the shaft you know as I'm bringing that down club on the way down I feel out the heads a long way back and they really whips through at the bottom of the golf swing okay again great Ronnie not flight a little bit straighter but again really high their scarab just over 240 I'm carry distance there at 2:41 and I spawn at 3,600 more seats just saw quite high launch that and just sort go straight because we've got sort of expected but the strike felt really really good okay again know about strike that pretty straight onyx fly really high low yeah again that's kind of about 243 there 242 okay that's more than four thousand three hundred up you definitely can see for really sort of climb that through it's ball flight okay so if if three shots the waves with three shots with the sub-zero there now and then we'll check some numbers a little bit more detail right so now I've got the epic sub-zero my hands is this is nine degree as I say it's got the hazardous project X handcrafted shaft here in 6.0 so stiff should be a lot more suited to my swing my speed my delivery okay so gears verse on a hit okay so straightaway that felt so much better the flight was obviously very very different there and the result different there I said you know it to sub before Kerry Brunel are out over 305 spinning under mm okay that was a little bit lower the face down a little bit low striking the toe that's the really well I mean that's got to 81 carry 309 and that's bought at 2,200 so slightly lower on the face there but again the spins very much control obviously a lot different tack in the head compared to the ladies here the latest CG offs would be way back here just to try and get that ball in the air for generally the lady who struggles probably with a bit of club head speed officer shafts very very different way as well as flex and officer the length is a little bit different as well with the genesis version against the ladies so so obviously some very different spec and characteristics here between these two clubs and as I said early it's probably worn extreme to the other here but sometimes good to maybe look at the differences between these two and obviously is a lot of types of golfers would fit in between all these between these two clubs and I say what extreme see oh there's a lot would fit sort of in between so it's really trying to through custom fit here he's trying to find also something that suits your speed your delivery your strike pattern you shock shape tendencies when you're out in that golf course to try and offs to get the most out of it distance wise but also controlled ok so just going to hit one more with the color white and then we'll just take a look at some numbers a little bit more detail [Music] again struck that really well that felt that pull up a little bit more there yeah dropped off slightly and carry their to 74 in out to 98 it just felt like a climb a little bit yeah two and a half thousand spin and I think all that a little bit a lot of the facial just see that's sort of climb a little bit in its flight there okay so a little bit more detail a boom a ghost against the ladies against the gents driver okay let's look at some numbers here so obviously isn't gonna be no surprises here but ladies club head speed 110 obviously picking up bit more length in the club here at 1-1 for club head speed ball speeds massive difference a mile now more ball speed with the gents launch and lower again loft options there shaft etc spin number good 1500 revs lower so huge difference of that spin number there so the whole combination here and this is what sometimes we see through fit is now obviously you know if I wait for fitting then won't put a ladies drive from handball and this sort scenario does happen through fittings where we can see that little bit of increase in club head speed more importantly that increase of ball speed will get the right shaft length you know controlling strike we see ball speed increases then couple out in the launch of the right area with a better spin number it all results from this and number which is you carry distance okay so to 42 against 276 you know so good 34 yards difference to purely on carry itself but then you look at descent angle that's coming at 33 degrees ladies coming at 47 so the run-out is massive you know it's a good 46 years difference of run out there right okay so so you may be thinking well what's the point in doing that you know for me with ladies against something that's very much more suited to me but probably again it's just another way showing you guys the differences of what shafts I've seen what heads the loss the length of the shaft and probably a little bit the feel as well aspect to this and can make to obviously numbers of the golf ball and performance of the golf club to certain golfer now as you appreciate through custom fit we see lots of golfers come through very different on terms of ability you know physical movements of body speed delivery way to deliver the golf club and this is where again getting the right loft the right shaft the right weight okay the right type of head obviously getting the right weight settings in the head length of shaft as I say I've done a video on that so quite recently and it's very really interesting results I get grip thickness again another video done I'll put some links up at the end here so you can go and check those out but all these little elements can can result some big differences of ball flight in terms of what and what they're gonna see so case dialling it into what is suitable for you what you're wanting to sort of see try to take a certain bad shot possibly if you've got in there or trying to hit a more desirable shot no that's a whole reason why we do close to fit so you know if you're gonna go out and go drive a semi ins whatever it is get fitted okay thanks so much for watching guys please do comment down below let me know your thoughts on this sort of video here maybe it possibly might not hold up this but if you guys got a ladies driver you know I'll tell you what there's so many out there and you know the guys who've maybe I don't quite a lot of speed will probably suit a lady's driver more it's a really interesting mean that felt great to me else if I wasn't optimum for me but the feel of it was superb so you know let me know your thoughts okay thanks we wants to watch you guys please do hit that thumbs up button share the video around obviously hit that subscribe button it'll mean a lot to me and hopefully capture what you all very soon
