hi guys it's Rick shields down here at Qwest golf got a minute here at Prairie Sports Village I'm gonna be testing and reviewing the new Cleveland driver yes you heard me correctly Cleveland I brought our driver a fairway wood I'm two sets of ions now I remember a couple of years back Cleveland we're really just saying no you know what we make wedges and we're gonna stick to making wedges it seems like they've changed the idea and they're bringing out a set of golf clubs that is designed to give maximum help that's why they kind of going with this now if you're not fully aware Cleveland is the the twin companies owned by the same companies trixin and I think what they're doing here is making the lesser budget shrieks and set slightly more appealing my stake in the Cleveland Brown Don it'd be interesting to see if that's actually the case so this is the launcher HB HB being high bore and if you remember if you are if you're an avid Cleveland fan it was all about the high bore with Cleveland many years ago they actually made some great drivers in the past some of my favorite drivers actually and the launcher was the name that used to always get popped back in there this is like the high ball launcher super high flighted driver there's no adjustability on it they claiming that the more adjustability on a product you start to lose performance which is very interesting they say that so I'm not sure if there's loads of backup of that but they must be confident and saying that so what they've done is stripped loads of the weight from the neck and the hosel shoved it in the bottom of the golf golf club as far back and as low as possible to give her height flight distance should give it a hair I just got this in 9 degrees there's no adjustability I can't change I can't put it in any bias at all you actually sent him in a stiff shaft but it fine then my my izaki shaft ms/ms iake shaft this blue and white one I like a look at it behind the ball it's very very confident building a huge head there's a centerline in the middle that's got this this kind of grade area it's a dark gray almost like a tie at least gray on top but then the light silver strip that just puts in that actually says a ball crown technology I think it's to help with airflow across the face it's not off-putting because it actually helps frame the face and makes it look really fast actually let's give this a hit so loud that was a real crack of a head so nice they actually I think I okay I'll scared I was gonna turn it a bit left for the shaft that's okay and so I got there claiming height the claiming distance clearly forgiveness what I would typically read that as being is I'm gonna see a high spin and possibly not the longest numbers I would expect you sell a day to they're a good strike location swing speed was fast 114 ball speed was healthy at 162 I'll get some spin numbers up at the end let's hit a few more it's a hell of a sound so however high get I almost feel like I'm hearing like a 12 degree driver there the height that I've going to but it does say 9 on the head to 90 carry good healthy hair again for 311 total distance that's longer than I expected this driver to go I've spent rate of 2000 but it was averaging it to 6 2600 swing speed seems fast again that seems really fast for a 460cc head I'm normally with a 460cc around kind of a 111 112 mark once we get 114 or something just feeling strong today that's pretty fast noise oh my goodness I'm not sure if I'm comfortable with the noise I'm not sure if it's a noise that I would feel super proud of out in the golf course it is it is they're pacing ly loud it's a obnoxiously loud up so that's probably a nicer word appoint a nice way upon it good numbers again tell you what if you want to be paid attention this is a driver that that's going to help me do that let's go a couple more flights so far so good happy with the numbers happy with the flights it's kind of doing everything that it promised it would do wasn't good here I see what that does that was a Healey strike see there was a little bit more cut on it I'll tell you what I'll tell you what I will tip my hat to that shot every day because I didn't think it would get to that number at all that was a Healey weak strike and it's managed to carry 276 for just under 300 yards total distance one six one ball speed still he it wasn't as Healy on the on the quad day today actually seemed quite middle but it certainly felt Healy to me and he got one more than we're gonna dive into some of the numbers the one I can have always slightly feared through the whole of this review just with the shaft being a stiff and not an X I kind of thought what might go left we've got a good a good amount of data there anyway to have a look at I feel like it's just more ill-fitted than anything that last shot I mean not that I can't hit one right and left anyway but let's have a look so if you look at some of the day trip on screen there we've got the fire shots that just hit barring the last one being a bit of a bad one bit of a bad golf shot I'm actually pretty impressed with the numbers we've got an average carry distance of 277 the longest out there have been 290 which was our second shot the rest of them all sitting in that 270 mark which is lovely you know I'm pleased with that kind of toll distance there at 2 9 7 on average and numbers that I expected to see was this column the backspin column we see average of 2 7 8 3 spin the highest there being at 3,100 the third shot and the lowest weirdly all the second shot again the second shot being 2100 and that's where I've gained actually kind of 10 15 yards on top of the rest of the data just got spin numbers a little bit lower ball speed I'm pleased with it 160 launch angle 11.5 which again is comfortable launch angle that I get from a 9 degree driver if someone has said to me what loft is this driver without without looking at number and just hitting the fly in my head up vision it being a higher lofted driver I envisioned it being more like an 11 or 12 degree driver I'm getting peak height there at 35 yards up in the air the highest one again being that second one I just got the right mix of high launch and low spin for that second one that made it go out the park but 37 35 yards up in the air is healthy height for a driver for me actually I don't like a lot of the components like a lot of the actions it's tremendously loud as I mentioned obnoxious ly loud which I think it's gonna put some players off because they don't want it to be super loud but that's completely different from you know golfer to golfer for me drivers that do have no adjustability is uncomplicated and there is definitely a market for that I think to say that the technology to move weights etc compromising performance that's what Cleveland said so in one of the little quotas that they did a video on I don't believe that I'm not sure if I'm tremendously behind the idea bought there is this market of keeping it simple for me this is looking at it from the outside you've got to think Cleveland the tricks under the same company tricks and in Cleveland the same company and Cleveland swore down that they were just going to make wedges and they made great wedges the r-tx 3.0 just awesome wedges trixin make fantastic ions premium ions like really premium ions I've not a chance to test them yet what a one day one day so the budget set of striction never did very well so I think this is just a clever spin on naming and marketing I think they've gone well hold on if the budget tricks and stuff doesn't do very well and Cleveland is very well known and very well respected let's make a budget set but call it Cleveland that's that's my spin on it I would be surprised if we see a budget lower pricepoint set from trixin this year that's my prediction I've now got the irons to test this two sets of high ions is like the seat the high launch the HP which is a big forgiving one buddy got six iron in that so I might wait to test that I've got the CB x which is the cavity back irons which Cleveland the claim they're doing a lot more stuff that they do in wedges into a set of iron so I'd be interesting to test Cleveland launched eh be the numbers spoke for itself my ears will still be bleeding for a few more months yet I think the technology hi there James savage from national club golfer today I've got the brand new rogue drivers from Callaway I'm going to tell you all about these really exciting new drivers from Callaway who are effectively the number one driver brand at the moment you know they've had some fantastic sales over the last 12 months their epic driver was like the number one driver particularly in Europe it was phenomenally successful really went down a storm in the Pro Shop so the job of rogue if you like is is kind of backing up the success of the epic drivers now I wouldn't say that rogue is necessarily replacing the epic so you know don't worry if you've got an epic driver it's not you know these drivers aren't making those obsolete and you probably still gonna be able to buy the epic drivers but what Callaway have done is they've just you know enhanced some of some of the technology and the design and that's what I'm going to tell you all about now in the new road drivers so first impressions got the head cover here as you can see we've got a completely new color scheme from what we had with the epic the epic was very much that sort of darker green color now we've got this I think it's teal and it's the right wording for it so it's it's quite interesting I'm not going to lie my first impressions of these colors are maybe more what you'd expect from from a brands ladies range but but that's not what rogue is it's not a ladies ladies range at all let's take it out of the head cover and have a look so the first thing that's interesting to me and with the new road drivers is that Callaway have done away with that sort of sliding weight and system that we had on the epic so he had you sub-zero model and then you had your regular epic model which had that sort of you know movable way but what we've actually got now instead of that is I've got the regular model here they've also got a draw bias model here which has got some weight in the heel and they've also got the sub-zero model there which is the sort of weight forward low spinning elite player tour player product if you like so why have they done that well it does make sense to me because basically first sort like an adjustable wait track that you put in a driver basically if that does take out some of the potential performance benefits and I guess if they were finding that you know you know ninety percent of the golfers that did get fitted into the regular epic we're moving that way into the hill they were just thought well let's just just average sort of draw biased Hill weighted Club to go over the regular version and the sort of weight forward sub-zero model so we've got three models to choose from so it's a bit of a twist on adjustability if you like from from choosing between three models rather than having one regular epic model that that can be fine-tuned so what's the result of that you know what it's actually done is it's actually allowed callaway to kind of pack a little bit more forgiveness into these road drivers they've actually been able to make that mo AI higher and they've actually been able to make them a little bit larger and that's not just through through the moving of the weight track is actually through some of the you know the other technologies in there let's start talking about something that I'm sure you're all familiar with from the epic drivers and that is the jailbreak technology it was a really good sort of tech story fit for Callaway with their epic drivers you know some really good marketing around it and it was all about using these titanium bars to sort of connect the soul and the crown to sort of you know stiffen up the club and allow that that face to sort of like take more load and you know get more ball speed did it work I think it did you know in our testing last year the epic drivers you know and probably just had the little couple of miles an hour extra ball speed can compare to some of the products on the market so and you know they're not done away with jailbreak technology at all that they've actually enhanced it and they've done that by they've actually made the titanium bars 25 percent lighter and through the the overall carbon design of this club you know which is it's I've got a lighter face it's got a lighter crown it's got these lighter jailbreak titanium bars and and that weight saving and if you like that that's actually just allowed them to you know just just to kind of give that that head higher mly just really know for its footprint just being being a little bit larger so it's it's larger but it's also liked it's not larger and heavier and so you really still should be able to get you know sort of like good swing speed with this we've still got the sort of an speedstep crown we've seen for a few years now from from Callaway so yet larger lighter higher MO I more forgiveness and obviously you've got the three different options here okay so I think that pretty much covers all of the technology in these clubs but I will just touch on the shaft as well we've got a new shaft for these drivers this is a Project X Evenflo shaft which is the shaft that I was fitted into when I went to the brands launch event and upper Archerfield so how do they perform well let's just just just go through what happened in my fitting and when I actually went for my fitting up in Archerfield it was absolutely freezing cold I wasn't hitting it particularly well and actually got fitted into the to the draw biased model because I was I was striking it without the hill and that draw bias model was was straightening my shots out we know quite a lot but brought the products back to Leeds been doing quite a bit of testing and on the sort of local driving ranges here and I did just fine with that draw biased model that I was just getting too many shots that were going a little bit and too far left on me so I hit some more shots actually with the regular model and and and I think this is the one that was just working really really well for me when I set it down behind the ball you do notice that extra sort of mass and compared to the epic drivers I found the epic drivers to be quite quite rounded not sort of compact but they were sort of like oh yeah like so a little bit more around the chair but you can actually see with the road drivers that there was just that little bit extra masses you know sort of weight dragged back a little bit and it's just a really confidence-inspiring them sort of footprint addresses it was closer to me to the driver that I used last year and that was the the TaylorMade m2 and what I really like about the TaylorMade m2 is just that sort of huge you know you know footprint address it just fills you with loads of confidence and I definitely think that that's what what there's going to be one of the biggest differences that you notice from the road driver compared to the epic you set it down it just makes you feel like you know you're not going to miss and I think that's a really huge positive so how does it perform again like with the epic drivers you know I think due to jailbreak technology that the source sound and feel I would know this describe it has been really really solid it's just you know you just just feel that impact feel it just it just feels like you know like say that there's the club its and I taking taking it taking the load of your shots really well and and and it's just coming off the face you know really nice and fast really nice solid feel okay so I've just got some launch monitor numbers here using a sky track launch monitor just to get a little bit of data on these clubs and this isn't anything massively in-depth from from a numbers point of view and I would never really say to anyone that I look at look at my launch monitor numbers this tells you what everything what this club can can do because it doesn't it's very personal to me it's very dependent how I'm swinging it on the day and as a mid handicapper I can be quite inconsistent like I said the launch event didn't hit it very well in the fitting definitely hit it a lot better and when I was I was testing this club out at the driving range so in terms of the numbers it's it's giving me pretty much you know what what I'd expect there I've got some there you know carrying two to five to two to total to four for total to five for so you know really it's roundabout the sort of carry to 20 carry two to five total 250 which is you know it is exactly what I'm looking for from a driver really but it was just a few shots there and what I really saw some good ball speed numbers where I struck it well you had ball speed 144 miles an hour now if you know some of our other and you know sort of recent driver reviews that have done you know I'm sort of looking at 140 miles an hour that sort of bit of a benchmark driver number for me I know that's good so 144 I know that's like really really good so all in all and I thought the dispersion was really good with this driver you know I'm when I'm missing I'm not missing by huge amounts often at the time you know five yards to the left seven yards to the left five yards to the right overall I'm offline I'm sort of sixteen yards sort of to the left which it's very playable for me and you know I'm not a great driver of the boy don't hit it very far I'm very inconsistent so if I can find the fairway more often than not roundabout 250 I'm really really happy so from a numbers point of view for me and let's tell him that this driver is performing really really well okay so just as a little bit of a summary then on the road drivers you know what what what my overall thoughts well it's quite a difficult one I think because the epic drivers were so phenomenally successful for Callaway the road was always going to be it was always you know up against it to kind of match or make it any make it any better than that so have they managed to do that I think they definitely have in a few ways like I say making it more confidence and inspiring it address increasing that forgiveness like I say that the performance and off scent it's I think was very very good so you know I think we can definitely say that there are improvements from the road you know on the road over the epic I don't think they're the sorts of improvements that are going to make people you know want to part with their epic drivers and switch into the robot well I think the road driver is going to do is it might attract you know some some players you know to Callaway you know from from rival brands because I do think that the jailbreak technology is a really good text Dorian I do think it really does work you know so and like I say I think that what Callaway targeting here with these particularly with that the draw biased driver and the regular driver is I think they're really targeting those players that want more forgiveness think Callaway you know to say that around about 90% of players want more forgiveness so that's definitely the route that they've gone down and I think it's a smart move and you know access is a fantastic product looks sounds and feels great I think one difference that we're noticing this year with the the sub-zero model is that with the epic I thought that the sub-zero model was still really not really really playable I think that you made handicappers could get fitted into like no problem but I think that with the sub-zero model this time around I think it's more aimed at your better player it's that sort of low spinning better player driver so I don't think you're going to see as many sort of mid handicapped or handicapped golfers getting fitted into the to the sub-zero I think you're gonna get you know most of you club golfers are going to be going into your regular road driver those people who struggle with you know a little bit of unwanted sort of left to right ball flight they're going to go into the draw bias driver but right okay once again Happy New Year thank you for joining the average golfer in a week that is full of tailor-made testing lots of prompt being a relief right now I'm going through right through the m5 and m6 rains it's been introduced first of February of 2019 I'm now on to the m6 driver let's have a look at that from from this side to start with a bit of a close-up on that I thought some movies you do Bastian there you can give me some opinions in the comments below on what you think in terms of looks when do this review just a little bit different we're going to talk inside here about how this thing looks maybe saw through the tech spec from TaylorMade and then we're going to get out on the course and also collect some dry ball data and then back into it to discuss the findings from this whole review so let's start off with a text back in terms of what our tailor made packing into this 2019 driver it is all about speed injection and they're injecting the clubface with these two red screws that we've seen that little bit of error snip it from not so very long ago how are they doing that well basically each driver head will be individually tested they're gonna try and get each driver head to as close to the legal limits of cor as they possibly can and to do that they feel like they need to test every club individually across a number of places across the clubface and where required they're injecting a resin that is going to go and support certain areas to ensure you're getting the fastest possible spall speeds from right across that clubface so in really the biggest sweet spot that they've ever produced from a driver the other thing that's different we've still got by the way twist face is staying clearly it's been a winner in terms of from tailor-mades perspective so twists face technology is staying it's going nowhere it's in the to drivers is in the fairways and it's also in a hybrid which we'll get to very very shortly other thing they've introduced here and I'll have a close-up little image for you of the bottom of the m6 and where they've introduced some extra weight and mass at the back of this clubface so it's a carbon sole with what they call in generator and basically that's slot at the very back their foot stores 46 gram of weight and obviously it's very low and it's very far back and it's therefore enhance CG and maximum forgiveness it's also got that hammerhead technology we've seen before and that along with the sort of speed injection as they call into this clubface it's gonna produce their most forgiving driver their fastest driver we're gonna get some amazing results it sounds like and there's only one way to find that out and that's to get out on the course but let's start off and get over to for golf Chester and start to do some testing this product yes so it's into for golf Chester for the first part of this test and what this is going to be as my first reaction to hit in this golf ball or hitting this golf club rather what I think it looks like at address and then gonna hit some golf balls and I'm gonna give you my immediate thoughts and that's without the confusion of any dates are back this or I'll record some data later on and we'll go through that at the end of this video but for the time being this is all about first impressions and I have to say that looking from the top of the club and we touched on it briefly in the intro this crown this sort of muted matte finish if you like it's almost got the checkered flag like a Formula One imprint this carbon imprint looks like now is I think really nice on the eye one big thing TaylorMade have done and whether you liked it or not this will this will be a big sway on this club is that thick top band that on the face itself or up on the crown directly behind the ball we had this white in the m1 m2 band strip it went to silver in m3 m4 it's still that silver color but it's been reduced down significantly that's a big noticeable difference and address but it frames a ball really well I love the weights as slider cut away at the toe end of this club as well and it's it's like I said really nice at address next thing we've got to look at is twist face do you see any of it and I mentioned this in last year's video no you don't you cannot see anything other than as what looks like a square clubface so there's no we ain't seeing that that the differences in there must be minimal because you don't see it as a golfer bless it some golf balls it's a high launching ball don't forget so we've got this club set up just a quick reminder then it's nine degrees I'm using this at Moss stitch shaft in this club first ball has gone off very well indeed I mean it's on balls first and I'll give you my my thoughts as this is currently set up in evening this nine degree loft it's incredibly high launching it is going a long long carry but there's a little bit of downwind and the numbers will confirm how long and how far this is traveling the interesting thing is two balls very very straight always been the same in terms of twists face is how do you how do you spend the time someone's going to spend the time in sort of tryna work out does that work or not and it'll need a better man than me to prove that or not but first two ball and third that's the best ball out a lot that's come from miles very impressive a couple of things to note different sound from previous models at a slightly more muted sound there ain't no sort of gunshot going off the immediate feel out the clubface is speed is power it's firing out there this is wise I have no idea what this thing is doing and that's what I'll get backed up with some dry ball data at the end of all this so from here the obvious thing is to take this out there on the golf course or C on the golf course I want some more straight up the thing [Music] so if you drives in with the m6 and I have to say again without the adjustability that comes with the m5 the current setup for me right now I mean it's pretty much more than happy with its weak ionosphere I've always found that with the adjustability I end up in a pretty neutral position anyway so for me the can of the neutral position that set up in this m6 is pretty damn good both light is high I think it certainly aimed at people perhaps struggle in terms of launch off the tee it's certainly firing a ball high up there it's not overly windy today but maybe in some windy conditions out there on our links then maybe the ball face is a little bit too high that'd be something to consider in terms of performance a lot of these tailor-made clubs have got a totally different sound and feel for me and it's a lot softer it's not quiet it's a lot more muted and again that's something that I really like not necessarily appeal to everybody but it's not that sort of gun shot going off but once again you know it's very difficult to pick fault with this Golf Club I let a few more shots out there on the range and then return into the warmth and we'll do a summary on this club [Music] [Music] I've been on the course we've got the drive all data everything we need to know so far about the m6 driver and I say so far I said it with the m5 we're going to do further testing on this club and get a better idea of whether or not a twist face it's got some that workings is you're actually working and again this injected resin in terms of ball speeds across the clubface and have a closer look and see if we can identify if that is the case but for what we've got so far out there on the course really like this club out there on the course I think it's the real environments it's it's different acoustics in terms of sound and feel and for me really loved the sound and feel all of the performance once again for the loss that this was set up I can't believe the launch these balls at the moment and there's a couple more drivers that I'm going to be testing in the next day or two the ball fight on these things at the moment since herbs are launched are absolutely flying out there perhaps even like you said a little bit too high for me perhaps need just dropping down a little bit and that would again be by spending more time in terms of a perhaps even the shaft in this and also taking this down a little bit in terms of this nine degrees worth a loft so back to the looks as folks first of all as well I'll give you my opinion on the locks I want to prefer the locks off the m6 and the m5 let's start off with the m6 as folks first of all I like the looks I love the looks of the m6 much more toned down I love this weight system that is in the back the way just that the whole sheep and of this back end of this call I really like it's it's really nice behind the ball and like you said for shelf appeal for me I'm much more be drawn to the m6 no would be to the m5 I like to clean a lock at doubling the adjustability and not some bolts the often see in the adjustable drivers so the m6 real thumbs up in terms of locks likes its sound and feel it's good performance was good out there drive all data up on screen for you now for those of you people who like this once again you'll see carry number on average 246 but there's one out there 2:59 which was in terms of the two drivers m6 and five that was the longest carrying that's a considerable carry distance for me as well with a spin on it or one and a half thousand the spin number is incredibly low high large incredibly low spin again and I set this on them m5 those things have probably want tweaking either way on both of those numbers if you could and I think that's what I would do if I had more time certainly look at the shaft in this with this head type and try and change those numbers a little bit to optimize performance once again the number in and around the sort of 240 to 250 carry is where I am at there's no difference in terms of yardage gained there from any other drivers that I've used out there on the course I hit it really well I found it sort of this word easy to use is an odd one because but I just felt this up for a nice smooth swing on it there's plenty of ball speed off the face and plenty of performance in terms of carry distance because the ball speeds they're averaging it just 140 ball speed is lower than what I've achieved with other clubs but again that carry distance at 2:46 incredible carry distance so all these things put together the club has performed exceptionally well and like I said out there on the course I found it and it's the wrong term to use easy to use as a stupid term I know but that's the only one that comes to my head nice easy swing get that ball somewhere around that clubface and it seemed to travel and and do pretty well I'm gonna once again I'll make the same statements as before have I seen any noticeable difference in performance from m3 and m4 at this stage absolutely none whatsoever now I have to be honest and say that however I will be doing the relevant head-to-head videos going forward and we'll try and pay closer attention to the differences between the two and see if we can identify the claims that TaylorMade have made in terms of the enhanced performance in the face in particular of the the m6 and the m5 but that's all for a later date anyway as ever thank you for watching I hope you enjoyed that try to give you as in Carlsbad California and we're gonna see what they have to offer so first time they're anything like this so really honor to be here and a big THANK YOU to Callaway for inviting us should be a lot of fun behind the scenes [Music] pick up Daniel so well so happy new year happy new alright guys today we are up at Callaway's you like holloway center they're gonna be launching the epic flash driver today which the CEO we heard him talk about it last night at a dinner that they had and he told us all about the technology that went into it a lot of artificial intelligence supercomputing that a lot of just crazy stuff that they put into this driver and it's supposed to be revolutionary we've heard a lot of a gulf manufacturers say that over the years so we're gonna we're here to find out if that's true or not so we're gonna get to hit it today and really talk to some of the people have to help design it and build it so it really should be a fun day yeah I've heard nothing but great thanks about the flash driver and I also watched a little preview with Aaron wise and good ball speed increased by three or four miles an hour and also Sergio so that equates to about nine to twelve yards of you know distance and that's one extra Club closer to the green and yeah definitely looking forward to this alright guys so today we're gonna walk your around this place we're gonna show you what the behind the scenes all looks like we're also gonna be doing drivers fitting like I mentioned putter fitting Anthony that works for Callaway it does all the wedge stamping he's gonna be here so we're gonna go and talk to him we've talked to him a little bit last night he had some really cool stories about some of the wedges he's designed so we asked him to bring them his book that has some of the cool designs he's done over the years so a lot of fun stuff and a big THANK YOU Callaway for having us again we've been working on trying to make really bad and terrible but when you really look at the stats they're not getting any better so it's like okay something else must be going cutters had gotten so heavy heavy heads heavy rips not so much heavy grips but every swing weights coupled with these heads that have gotten so heavy the putter has really sort of become just connected to it till is often it is stroke the putter really starts to kind of try to control the stroke so we just looked at I think there's a way to develop a putter differently weighted totally different or we could kind of bring it back a little bit so it would be more connected so it's a way of really making the entire putter have much higher mo AI inertia than just the hip and what's happened is because we develop that shaft which is like programs life and is they're really naturally so how long you been making sputters you know I've always I've always done all kinds of clubs but footers are are no drivers are fun but there's you know they're really heavily regulated now more than ever right but I don't thirty years probably something like that I lost 15 years a lot more so in the last five years pretty much that's yeah and how long you been with Callaway two and a half years so I I had spent about twenty-one years of the street that Taylor made and that was fun and retired and I meant to retire and I have three kids two of them talk me into starting a clutter company called tool on design that was in the middle of 2015 which I thought was going to be awesome but it's starting a company is more it's hard and it's a there's a lot of a lot of stress and strain and stuff that goes into it and you know we started with a little bit more knowledge than a lot of people starting in Ralph Elkins good we got off to a great start and then about eight months into it but I got a call from chip and Harry and next thing you know we're over here yes yeah thanks for me yeah yeah yeah for me nice to meet you yeah yeah great and if you guys need something okay we're gonna do I can see you all right awesome all right be good guys all ready it's a new version of the same putter I'm playing it's a seven it's got this carbon-fiber stroke lab shaft and this thing looks sexy so let's see have this is this is Phil's latest renditions what we've done so that allows your handsome we didn't want to drive a little 530 go beyond provided that it is different we got into this any of those ideas we've incorporated are you ready by closer together sort of whatever and that's really unfortunate degrees of course the grooves but all the way to the to the face [Music] away from the sky and so I start face you start to have [Music] that's what we did there the other thing we have Micro positives so yes G restricts us how much face roughness we have so but we we are introduced a positive all right where we cut in know when you're out back to return we put them on an angle angle in this way so it's a little bit more so we have a tight leading edge here again a tight leading edge here so it's less displacement now function rough and that's what he loves we changed the sole a little bit it's like a mini sure item is he loves it behind the ball let it slide through that's what your children and it also looks like the toe you increase the size of it well we with the height of the Dovizioso it just more forgiveness we lower this so it actually looks and it also looks like there's a groove a little bit lower on the face is that something well I'll pick it up on everything we ask you to all that to nip it group yes on little little shots you actually get that okay this is a very highly technical wedge but it's it's been copied okay and but this is this the original right here it's beautiful so you've got a few different finishes we have a beautiful chrome a milky Crone and and what about the the weights in the back actually those we're just kiddin NFL yeah this is the greatest which make that they really felt awesome [Music] it hits a little baby draw little rock that was behind again sucks back about a foot I just first shot that's it no more stretch it it's gotta be the club right it is the club wow this thing felt amazing it's a self shooter right around Oh kind of like the innovator of wedges and I've been playing his wedges since I can remember it's always been one of my favorites and for him to be out here and you know showing his product at Callaway it's pretty amazing a little bit awestruck with him he actually invited us out to LA country club so we might have to take him up on that offer and yeah he's just a innovator into the game and really changed the dynamics of the wedge and it's really great for me to meet him and share a little time with him all right so we got Jason Finley with us he is the global golf ball designer for Callaway and what can you tell us about the new golf ball you guys designed yeah so the ERC softball is one of our new golf balls for 2019 it's a really exciting new product cuz it's really all about redefining what's your expectation of a distance boy so you know when I was a kid I remember playing in a scramble and I would hit a distance ball off the tee and I'd switched to another brands ball at the time before Callaway had won but so this is gonna be a couple that's gonna bring those two things together so you got a golf ball that's gonna be the longest golf ball in our line but it's still gonna have all the spin and control that even a really good player will be able to play so that part's exciting and we've done that a couple ways first is we've got a new hybrid cover on the golf ball that's gonna bring a few of the things we've done in other golf balls in the past even in the mantle we're bringing those materials in to the cover of the golf ball and then we've got our graphene duel soft vest for similar to what you found in the chrome soft golf ball that really is the best engine to make a golf ball and then new for this year we have triple track technology as well just kind of in need of a fight and that one's kind of bringing down by my fault might launch and just been so wasn't really getting anything so we want the regular one in ten and a half with 10 C shaft Xbox 65 gram 45 inches so hope feels awesome feels like it's shooting off the face and this person looks really good on it I was telling them a little bit so I think with a little bit of practice I'll be able to get this thing dialed and put in the bag all right flash sub-zero [Music] that was pretty level with your attack angles first one almost a pretty level as well Pat they go a little into out Sub Zero you're like a French Canada sub here he doesn't get anything I on the face yet you want to try the standard head as well just to see how that compares give me two more with that so we got a better average I've just got the last two on there yeah I think I think we might I just need to swing it loose we're losing at you're getting your mash now standards gets overwhelmed by the Sub Zero having a slightly more efficient launch and spin they end up getting about the same carry a little more wrong with this okay it looks like you've got two good options either either one you decide to turn over and on Sub Zero you don't turn over too much I mean there's not really a dramatic difference between the two as far as I had to pick for you I would pick the last one - just knowing that I'll tendency if you don't hit it great you'll catch them low on the basis of zero keep it down a little Sub Zero and that's pretty well set up neutral so you take the weight slide it into toe it turns over a little too much after on course trial house climb or in the heel that's turnover and now we've got three stock Jeff one of them a new shaft new version of the tend to be she's making the hazardous smokes their newest bench lightweight chat looks like we're gonna go with the the sub-zero ten-and-a-half epic flash it's got a little bit of our launch cuz I do a little bit so it's 10 min have set up neutral and standard on the lion law then it's at the tenths a six five gram next flex and I'll pipe it down the middle so be my new driver in the bag hey what's up Anthony starting to strive for a white and blue and I like skulls and stars just what I just end up doing if I'm sitting there looking at away it ends up with schools are sorry so this is the new p.m. grind and these are all as you can see the skulls the stars lightning bolts the flames and I just painted the flames just to make it pop a little bit that's awesome - great awesome and how long you been with Callaway this coming up to ten over twenty years Wow and what's what's one of the coolest experiences you've had with Callaway just meeting players it's like you know Michelle Michelle oh yeah order on my desk and go register Michelle said her like what are we doing this time in the first tile I made her legit she's like let's do Harry potter-themed and it's like great that's gonna be awesome and then I put the phone down how the hell am I gonna do Harry Potter day why Jesus those are the best legit was very cool amazing about these are awesome so after I panic I kind of figure it [Music] hey dude hey man so the Cobra f8 driver dropped today oh yeah right yeah man I was thinking about giving it a test drive you in alright I'll pick a pga superstorm Paramus like an hour you got it [Music] [Music] infinity all right guys days here January 12 we've got the new Cobra King F each driver much-anticipated everybody's been talking about it we're gonna hit it we've got the woods two big things Mike this new Milt face so what you're going to get with that is it's going to be much more consistent across the face of dinner face it's going to get a little bit more you know pop and you've got also the aerodynamics have been redone so it's supposed to be fast it's supposed to be great we're going to guys give you guys initial impressions or you go check it out right now let's do tell pretty nice so I love the quality of this I mean just take a look good news all the way through feel is nice really like the shaft we got a pop over these grips we say do it all right like the first look here says that CNC milled face that I want to check out so bad so what they do by doing that they're able to get a lot more consistency versus hand polish what we see on traditional drivers also you're gonna be able to get a thinner face you have to be able to get more consistency across the face another thing that they did with this you actually have slightly different loft on the top and the bottom and what that's going to do is going to correct their some miss hits which is I'm interested see because you don't miss it a while also the Cobra connects like that so that's great every drive Oh another big thing all carbon-fiber top right there we're just going to just really reduce the overall weight and big thing they focused on which I'm really just student checking out because I want to see how that translate the swing speed is aerodynamics a lot less drag that we're staying from this club so we got secret that to effect really see if we can feel you should be able to throw a little bit more speed by able to get rid of that air drag so check it out [Music] I'm gonna try taking a little bit of luck off this right now it was a preset at a ten and a half I'm gonna bring it down to a nine see if I could get rid of this hi pops [Music] it was super adjustable on this we got it right now at a nine all right very easy to change that out see right here we're still got the sticker on it but anyway easy to change that out I'm still getting plenty of high trajectory and with that nine [Music] some miss hits decent forgiveness you can see some of them I'm starting out way right and they're working their way back in so it feels forgiving you can see right here see how badly I miss hit that one we've got some right in that that's area right here the big sweet spot but I've got to miss hit they're still managed to work its way back towards Center [Music] the biggest impression for me just feels fast it feels like like I said as with any driver off-the-shelf the one change that I would make I mean we just literally picked this thing up off of the shelf adjustment I would make is I'd get it fitted for the right shaft the flex on this is a little bit too loose and it's also a little too long there's me I get it cut down I would just adjust that that shaft but otherwise it's a great feeling club I'm just kind of choking down on a little bit to get a little bit closer to work with normal chef Mike I play [Music] down the middle but take that all that for me that's good all right so my first impressions are forgiving Club fast Club I'm getting more distance than I usually do I'm not a big you know long-distance driver off the tee I'm usually I'm happy with 250 out to 60 that uses my game right now granted it's a simulator but I'm getting to 75 so I'm getting a little bit more you know you got to give and take a little bit but the simulator and also the other a caveat to this it's a little bit longer shaft and I would you normally play with the body if I was gonna dwell by this club tomorrow get fitted for it get the right length shaft goes off the shelf and talk about this all the time on the podcast you're gonna get a little bit longer usually then than what you should be playing but otherwise like I said forgiving Club I pushed to hit a little bit off the face and they're working their way back Blaney on this club my plenty of trajectory like height right oh yeah I mean that's one of my biggest first initial impression is that we're getting a ton of height out of it even at it edit playing to 9 degree loft so that the launch is nice but not like I'm losing yardage over it's not too high because like I said the art adji is something I'm really happy feels good in the hands looks good too / sleek look with that carbon-fiber back top but it's great club so far like almost just kill me with Teague so while Mike's taking a couple cuts over there I'll just show you that is this - [Music] hey guys welcome back so today we'll get a bit of a a challenging topic for eyes but something we think will be you know massively helpful to many of the audience watching these videos we obviously all know that the one thing that can really hinder a player's performance from the tea box will be the slice yes for most people it's got to be the most common ball flight that you see on absolutely you know that's there's not too many drivers out there that are considered exclusive fade the ice drivers but there's a bunch that are considered raw by drivers the reason for that there's a reason why angles with woods have gotten more and more upright over the years you know the slice has become hot you know harder to control that type of thing so we thought today we would really try and kind of piece together a formula for you guys which should help you deal with that and help you navigate around some of the issues with widest slice occurs some of the sort of may be ways in which you guys try and help yourselves they end up doing more damage than good yep that can often happen and I see all the time you know someone walk in with a a driver that they say you know they've bought it to try and help with slicing this actually made it worse really yeah interesting so so what basically happens in that scenario is the player that has the wild slice is generally a high spin player yep right so you're swinging out you're swinging across your target line having to hang on to the club face because the club face the target is generally or for you you know math you're gonna be swinging to the right target is to your left I've got to hang onto your club face yeah that type of thing you know for the right-handed player swinging to the left having to hang the face on because you know you're your target is to the right of your course yeah you have to and in order to do that and variably you're gonna add dynamic loft right you're gonna have a bit of a mess hit all those things can kick up the spin so often this type of player will gravitate towards a low spin driver right thinking that that is the remedy towards helping them drive it better because the excess spin that they have because they're our slicer so they've gone and gotten something like rogue sub zero and it's a low spin driver they think it's going to help they think that will help their driving that will really bring the spin down and and often that actually makes it worse because all that low spin driver does is move the CG further forward we know when we lower the spin we can often create even more curvature so really the objective shouldn't be just to try and you know bring the spin rate down your objective is trying to match up the face to the path okay try to realign those two parameters rather than actually trying to physically change the properties of the driver so delivering if your path is going sideways yeah relative to the target at least have that clubface in line with that path for sure versus being open that's exactly so the the the the more you can control that face to path discrepancy the more control you gain over your ball flight cards the more control you gained over dynamic loft more control you gain over strike point all the things that influence the ball and towards doing the right thing so that's why for me you know a lot of the time you know I'll go to a head that actually has you bye-bye so design is not lower spin but it produces significantly lower spend cuz the face closes over my okay right so just by being way open you're automatically gonna be spinning it way more you have to doesn't matter how long your your driver head is yeah you know and in terms of design features matter how far forward the you know the CG is if the face is why you opened you're going to spin it of course yeah so I but if we can get that head to realign closer to the path and an ideal world you know not not exactly but generally speaking if we can keep the face between the path and the target okay so far yeah we can be eight degrees out to end right as long as that face is you know four degrees open to the path about four degrees close to the target well generally hit a fairly safe shot little fenders has you chained up on on target right it's not exact science and there's a few other things can I go into that but general rule of thumb is you know try and keep it between the two and you'll be okay right I mean there's so many people that hit a slice right I think this is the question that I mean get ahead of because I know what people are gonna say you can't really fix your slides need to go get lessons you need to address it but here's the reality most people are not going for lessons that's it like what 90% of people aren't going for lessons that is your 1,000% right when you say that so the reality is we can probably help as many people by you know doing a video address on this topic as people will do by going to get lessons of course we always advocate better my first truth but until you get there Hobart will help you enjoy the game a little bit's the thing and you may have no intention of getting lessons you may not have time money interest whatever the answer is you're not going you have had lessons and you just find your bad results you know you've not been able to implement you know the this of advice you've had from the pros sure and then you know reality is not bashing anyone but you know sometimes you know you maybe don't get the right advice absolutely alt is you know you're not always gonna you know gonna get that the best advice for your issues yeah so you just want to go play golf and you don't want to hit everything with the slice so the question that people ask is can I cure my slice with a driver right and I think what we're gonna try today is to show maybe a setup that people could duplicate if they go for a fitting or they go to a shop yeah what is the type of thing you could do to make as an extreme I guess an adjustment to your ball flight short of actually changing your cuffs we haven't and move Cana gave the punch light in a way a little bit with regards to how we're gonna go about that right it's it's taken and we just grabbed a driver you know that has those low spin tendencies you know rogue sub-zero and and and this is the type of driver somebody would walk into here with you know every other day and go yeah I tried to get this to cure my slice and bring that spin rate down button it's not really work no missing it dollars you know yes my more on the other side the fairway so okay well we're going to test that we're gonna we're gonna try and basically get Matt to set up with very much fatal fade delivery conditions and we see what we're both like we can get off that yeah and then we'll go to work as we would in a fit and see what we can do yeah well essentially start with a ball that's gonna curve too much left yeah away from where the target should be we'll use the flag obviously and then what we're not necessarily would you say changing the amount of curvature you're more changing where the curvature ends is that somewhat yeah I mean that can often be the case that you know I see this all the time is a really good point sometimes it cannot be it won't always be the amount of curvature can often be the start line yeah the start line so you know that the obviously this the face angle is going to have the biggest influence on the the initial direction of the golf ball right so if our you know face alignment you know is our thing we're never we're never gonna be able to keep the ball in play for that slice or they have to start it you know on the same side of the fairway as their Club path but you know in that direction it's going I mean we've all played with the guy who essentially curves the ball the same amount on every single swing and as soon as the ball takes off you know if it's gonna be good or not cuz did it start kind of left of target and slice back or did he kind of push it and then slice it that's that's when you get into trouble definitely ok so let's get some some baselines would do some testing with this and then we'll see what the numbers are like in them we'll make some adjustments okay so we're hitting some slices okay so we're looking for about least trying work to that number Matt let's work to that eight degrees eight degrees out to N do you find that generally someone with the slices a bit negative with the angle of attack really they are often you know definitely don't unless they have a sort of good feel for force of being able to manipulate their body to hang back a little bit yeah generally speaking to be a little down on it so we're gonna try to be as kind of as we can you're probably might start you know trying to get a get that start laying somewhere on the on the most there okay all right Matty let's see a couple lamb so kind of get your swing where you let liked and we'd be a lot more down on it we're gonna try and replicate the strike of somebody who struggles with that slice which generally is quite he'll save on it he'll suppose the other thing is as well at times we can see people who are out to end and head it awfully straight yeah because they had it tore safe I actually play with someone who will occasionally hit what looks like a draw yeah with a very over-the-top swing because he'll strike on so the gear effect will cancel out the the swing delivery right I mean that's that's why quad is so useful useful for us because it explains so much of what's going on if you are in a driving range and your eyeball and someone's flight in you weren't able to peck out strike point and somebody just was hitting lasers you might not know the true killer of ingredients towards that straight shot [Music] [Music] okay so I mean significantly right-to-left interest and spin is definitely down you know it would be the objective of that player you know to pick this driver to eliminate spin but an actual fact is increasing the the spin axis tilt me where that spin axis you know thirty degrees left right so we've made it worse by getting a low spin driver yeah yeah I mean we're just not controlling our face to path relationship we look on the average here you know face to path is five degrees open right so you know relative to your target Mattie your your baseline 0.2 which is nothing I wish as we say they're all in the intro that means you're starting the ball at your target and then so then it's slicing away to the off-site so you're not you're not able to start this down the right-hand side and feed it back to the target so it's not an effective favorite we see enough people play play golf with an effective fade which would be to start it down in your case the right hand side so something between five and seven out to end yeah kind of where we've been that's the general kind of you know it's the zone delivery over you something who's got a bet why they've I kind of chopped up some slice okay so let's start to chip away at this and see what we can do yeah let's see if we can put together some some compensations here and you know we can really start to kind of you know get this this dispersion circle get it way down there and you start controlling the ball okay okay alright Mattie so well give me something that hopefully should produce some different results here like we said the biggest thing that's going to influence the shape of your shot and start it more down the right-hand side is going to be the face close and more right so we start to match up that face to path that we start to bring down that five degree open face the path will you turn that into two right I'd love and love to be starting down the right-hand side just bleeding back to the target well Vasily giving you more loft to do that yes so we'll went 9 5 till made em for we found that to be really effective for people who have a better slice it's very job ice a lot weight in the heel section of that driver D type model right yep so we've went 9 5 closed it with their club connects one degree which turns up to 10 changes loft by half a degree gotcha so let's let's hit some some shots we'll keep the shaft the same okay so we're just focusing on what can be done because essentially the slice is mostly gonna be a problem because of the face angle so we're tackling the face and that's right that's the biggest thing we're influenced and here's the face to path relationship and you know hopefully getting that message across to the viewers that you know that's your biggest obstacle if you have a vicious slice is that discrepancy gotcha okay certainly did not curve as much as much yet how do we do there that's better pretty good so even with quite a severe past seven and a half that's very different so that path to me felt quite a bit across like the other one okay we'll see how we did yes there was still six out to end just just cracked through the face a little bit more so how much more closed of a clubface is that versus where we were with the other one so that was pretty close to being right between path and Tariq okay so that's what you were talking about that was that was exactly what we're talking three four a six out ten yep like we said just when we were building this one up Matty just raised to spend a little bit just to stabilize the ball and we saw that spin axis tilt around thirty before so at ten obviously we're not gonna we're not gonna have much of an issue so the face was closed to the target which got the right start line right and then the spin axis was tilted just enough just to bring it back on line but not too much tonight that shot is a good example of as good as you can do with that swing very close right right yeah it's definitely coming through a little bit less open isn't it there should definitely be less soft you know pressure on your swing Mattie in order to keep this one online that was a slight toe strike and that's right there where we can actually let's look at that and I'm curious with that we've had the face it was pretty much matched up to the path to be fair it was a little bit closed there but right toe strike as well actually gave us a fractional draw huh well that's the shot where you think you're hitting a draw that's right you've got half and we see that all the time people think they're hitting a draw yeah based on where they strike it and that's not it that one was not a draw just a pull off the toe right yeah that I think will be very similar to the other one we hit again path felt very extreme but it just seems to be starting more to the right and you kind of feel the ball get more compressed yeah that's it you feel the square contact because you're able to square the face up that's that's you know when people talk about that compression and look at that so reality is this is excellent looking at the ball speed being the same yeah the launchin spin basically the same you've picked up 25 in the air based on based on obviously squaring up the face to path relationship really yeah so there is your strike - yeah very similar strike wise if anything you've hit the tail made slightly more heel side so all we've done is it really just changed the face angle I mean you know guys I wish we could have done this as a live video I know I mean you may not believe it that this is essentially a live video or not exactly editing this one so you know I'd love a love it this one was what people were seeing this as it happened because looking at dynamic loft speed dynamic lie path it's quite amazing I mean you've likely done everything the same in fact your delivery is more extreme with stalemate you're more down and you're more out to end and still hitting it straight from the face significantly significantly straighter because you had no have a clubface that matches your path and yeah I mean that's so you're able to really control your ball flight so you know the the discrepancies is so minimal no I think it's a big key I think that a lot of people will understand to some degree that a face angle change is key yeah I do think there's a misconception that I draw a way to drive or somehow alters the path of your swing do you think people often will ask that is the waiting changing how the club comes through why it's really what you said to me earlier made a lot of sense the draw weight being here is helping the face just through it's like a rate of closure rate of closure as you said just getting the face to do that more right plus the face is already a little bit more closed yeah so you're naturally going to strike the ball with a more closed face that's all it is we're just think we're taking what you've got and we're fixing the easiest variable to fix yeah quite hard for us to change your path quite hard you know and then if you've got clubs me some things we talked about it with the irons if you get someone specially have told player who's using maybe clubs are too light for them yeah and address they're using clubs are a bit short so the shaft stands up a little bit and you know it clubs a bit light and it's quite easy for them to kinda throw over the top course here then you get them the right length so the shaft angle sits a little bit flatter they're able to swing around their body a little bit more and the weight can keep the club behind them for longer then they get a feel for what it's like to release that can be sometimes you know where we can influence path a little bit that's that's a very you know different scenario but still that you're alluding to something that you could do could do yeah and we yeah if we see that set of circumstances we have a fix for that it's the same as this you know we saw you we saw you deliver the club a certain way a little bit steep a little bit across it we just you know with the the rogues subzero it's just not it's not designed to rotate for a player those you know delivery parameters yeah we get you something like this give you an additional degree aloft you know a face that closes more so it matches up from a face to path relationship all of a sudden you can have a more than acceptable like you pick up 25 yards in the air out on average you know we're not talking about everyone no but over the course of around a week a month in a season two tons you better believe that that's gonna make an improvement to your game yep and even the one that it really was just one that was more of a over fade yeah was in play with this 27 yards I think off line it was yeah that'll in play everywhere 100% if you're the if you're a typical slicer you're aiming there in the right hand side sites they decide to get that ball to fail and so we're starting it the chances are you probably still catching a piece problem of the fairway with that versus where we hit the neutral one with the CG forward we had a couple 75 yards 75 and 80 yards I mean probably you know don't ya at any another fairway something like that so guys that the best thing you could do for that is definitely is control the clubface 100% I think that from a lesson perspective a lot of people make that discovery by being told to grip the club stronger which naturally brings the club in you know more closed but it's different I think when you go on the course you may not grip it the same every time if you're trying to change your grip yeah this for me if I'm swinging that way there's no way that I won't have the club more square aside from me man you know like physically trying to keep the club open you're gonna deliver it more square with that dope I mean looking at the rate closure there you know just just to touch on that rate of closure okay you know 2266 3049 so you know we are certainly getting that head to rotate a faster rate so that it's confusing enough for me but that's basically just a measurement of how quickly the club is correct it's a measurement the heel is heavier the Tuohy's later yeah the club is you know it's rotating faster so we're able that's how we're able to match up you know there's nothing else going on I've not asked Matt to do anything else and go you know what we're doing nothing nothing but showing you exactly what happens when you go away from and we're using extreme of extremes here we're using a head that we knew would open for sure because the CG pushed forward versus you know one that is back and in the heel we know that we know that club closes over we absolutely know it's exactly what it's designed to do from an engineering standpoint for sure exactly it but this this hopefully will help a lot of people towards putting out a fix on a really troublesome problem for sure and if you see that number I mean this that's a foresight measurement the rate of closure if you have access to it that would be interesting for someone if they had a draw weighted driver and they still weren't squaring the face yeah something like that being aware of your path being aware of your face to path mm-hmm your closure rate you come in and that number is really low and that's the thing if some of the is using some of the you will probably get some comments I'm using to draw a bit biased driver what's but you know I'm not I'm not seeing the results okay so let's look at it from another standpoint then what are some of the other variables we've got going on is the shaft too weak right you know is it working you know our deflection I mean we know the eysie is a shaft that you time really well so it you know there was we were already taking that one variable like the equation we know you do well with that yeah for my speed perspective it was good for you except etc so we were just isolating for a certain rotation of the head if you've gone and got let's say someone bought a draw driver off the rack should still probably go in for a fit session on a quarter absolutely you get it retrofitted to that driver yeah you know often what we will do start with low loft close the head and and you we know we're gonna add loft but you know at end the day like we said a square face versus an open face yeah will always deliver last lofts okay it's every its loft in motion that carries so joystick loft don't worry about what the static lawfully gets the same launch angle yeah out of way more loft is crazy we were able to I mean we know it was delivering less loft despite having way more life and the dynamic loft if we look at it was the same the delivered loft even though we had you know nine degree sub-zero verses this was playing ten degrees on the m4 right well we know that that's you know that's that's all to do with the the face being square versus the face being open very good yeah hopefully this is a informative you know I think it's hopefully people are watching with the intention of I think it's the basics of a kind of tackling your slice yeah but what you mentioned about that the low-spin driver I think a lot of people go that route I see it all the time you've got a look at they sing all the time' you'd say face angles number one you got it has to be you got to square that up force then what about the launch conditions let's find a ferry then we'll make it go far you know let's not try and not you get that one the wrong way around yeah we've got to get the ball first and foremost and play dead let's do what we can do to optimize it once it's there awesome was great stuff yeah guys hope you enjoyed How To Fix A Slice With A Driver (So Simple!)
erricka Gordo here with performance golf stone today's video is on how to fix the slice with your driver now our goal in this video is to fix that slice for you basically in media I need you guys to start to understand what causes that slice and how to fix it right off the bat now we have some 15 shot fixes for this slice I want you guys fixing that slice by this week and I'm talking practice this for a full week slices gone by this weekend I need you to understand first what causes the slice before we go on and how to fix it now I see a lot of golfers in person who struggle with the slice certainly we work with with a lot of slicers and a lot of people come in and they come in with all kinds of different reasons as to why they slice the ball and no one emphasizes the most important part which is that the club face is open to the path you need to understand that first you don't hit a slice because you're too far over the top you don't hit a slice because you hang back on your right foot you don't hit a slice because your ball positions off of your setups off you hit a slice because your club face is open to the path that is the most important part of this or any video you're gonna watch on how to fix your slice you have to understand and believe that part first in order for us to fix that slice and fix it quick we have to fix the face first now how do we do that when I take my normal setup I need to ensure that my grip is on the club at least neutral to slightly strong we cannot be trying to fix a slice if I have my grip on here in a weak position if my left hand grip is overly weak if my right hand grip is overly weak and we have other videos in the grip and there's plenty out to refer to those but we need to have that grip go from a weak to a neutral or a strong position you can play golf with a weak grip but not if we're trying to fix the slice pattern if you have a weaker grip I need you to get those hands turned clockwise on that Club right from face on I want to see some of that logo of the backhand I want to see some of those knuckles I want that V pointing at my right shoulder I need my right hand getting in here we're underneath here a little bit on the grip I can't have my right hand more on top in this fashion it's not gonna work for us need my right hand underneath again I want that V on my right hand ad or towards my right shoulder need a stronger grip pattern that can help ensure the beginning parts of closing a clubface that's non-negotiable if you're watching this video and you've struggled with a slice for years on end you can't play golf with that weak grip we have to get the grip part number one now part number two again fixing the clubface I need to make sure that the clubface stays square to slightly closed at two key checkpoints number one is during the takeaway I need you guys to get that clubface tilted slightly down towards the ground or even all the way towards the ground is that too shot absolutely it is for you hits a slice you need two shot we have to close the club face down as we can get rid of that shot so I want to get a normal set up I want to take my takeaway I want to start to feel my left hand point down towards the ground my logo is pointing down to a gun notice how that twist that clubface shot here I want to see that at this checkpoint I also in the follow-through want to see the same checkpoints I want to see that the clubface is tilted down towards the ground the back of my left hand is down towards the ground is that an exaggeration and does that close the club face absolutely it does that's the entire point here if I can get my grip strong enough if I can keep my face slightly close to square on this side half way back and slightly close the square halfway through my clubface is going to be shut for Shore and I can start to curve balls to the left and that brings me to my next key point to get rid of the slice we just talked about we need to fix the face but your brain also needs to see a different shot pattern okay we're not looking to go from slice to right down the middle on ball number one on ball number one two three four five ten you need to start to see something different which is the golf ball hooking to the left we want to see it going hard to the left in the beginning for two reasons one you need to do these pieces and your brain needs to be convinced that they're gonna work when you go play when you're on the golf course we need to see that what I just felt there gave me something different that's part number one part number two is once we get this clubface closed and the balls curving to the left now I have a lot of motivation I'm gonna be able to start to fix that downswing path right obviously a lot of you guys during the downswing with that face open start to get this outside in swing path and that doesn't do any good for us we hit it shorter that way the ball curves even more and I can't fix that though and this is important too you are not gonna fix your over-the-top pattern until you fix clubface if you're someone who has a slice and you've been trying to fix you're over the top forever and it didn't work because your face was too open and it's never gonna work that way if I have an open Club face my face is pointed to the right of the target the only way I can get that clubface pointing at the target and hit a functional golf shot is by swinging outside in if I made a good path swung inside with my face open the ball is gonna go a hundred yards to the right so now that our face is gonna get shot now you can work all those things you did before they were probably good but it wouldn't work because of your clubface now I can start to work that path inside out and straighten out the golf ball but first before we do that we need to fix the face we need to hit some shots to the left on purpose this is how you fix your driver you get rid of that slice with your driver I'm gonna go ahead and demonstrate an exaggerated version I take my normal setup first I get my grip on here and I want my grip to be stronger than normal so for my face on perspective my left hand is turned towards the camera you can see more logo stronger grip than normal I'm gonna get the face shut down going back and get it shut down going through and I want to hit it left on purpose let's give that one a shot grip is strong closed closed hook on purpose good and that's a low hook there to the left that's exactly what I want to see and I want to do that multiple times want my brain to see that a lot and now as I continue to practice after I do that for a little bit you know I'm gonna hit as many shots as needed right you should literally if you do it correct I'm talking about you're fixing your slice in one golf ball if you fix your face it takes one swing and nothing else now part number two is now I take that same feel but I'm going to get my path going more neutral and now I can hit a golf ball that's gonna go straight out there I don't need to hit it left forever just enough to give me motivation to swing from the inside so now instead of me making a swing grip strong close down close down trying to hit a hook on purpose I want to make a swing where I do the same piece and I hit a golf ball dead straight with that so that would be the next part of your training okay fix the clubface first you can literally fix your slice in one golf swing hit some golf balls to the left curve it and then work the path after you can fix your slice within that practice session definitely within HOW TO PICK A DRIVER | WHAT ARE YOUR BEST SPECS?
hey guys and welcome back in today's video we're going to talk about how to pick the right driver for you there's a lot of marketing out there there's a lot of myths out there and I'm going to go over some of the specs of a driver so that you know you know what would be good for you I'm just generally speaking we're going to talk about flex about loft torque all kinds of different things shaft length we're going to see which one's better set up for your game so there's no one driver that's going to be best for everyone every driver needs to be custom fit to your swing in your game so that you can get the most distance out of it and it's going to help you to play your best so one of the first things we'll talk about is shaft flex this is one of the things that people have a lot of questions about a lot of times people think well if I don't swing very hard then I'm obviously going to need a really light shaft flexor if I swing really hard that I'm going to need a very stiff shaft flex so that's not always the case a lot of things is how smooth your swing is and how you swing the golf club so let me go and give you a couple examples of how two different extremes of how people would swing the golf club so one extreme would be imagine like a David Toms who tends to take the club back and move everything in through together and doesn't have a lot of whipping or or lagging and release like and snap of the club coming through contact doesn't have a lot of club head speed for the PGA Tour be one of the lower swing speeds on the PGA Tour but he's very rhythmic and backing through well he can get away with a much softer shaft so maybe his swing speeds around 100 and 508 miles an hour could be a little bit more than that depending on where you're looking at but not really really fast he can use a softer shaft to be able to still get the club to work the same way whereas a player that is more aggressive through the hitting area maybe let's take an LPGA player and let's say that they're really lagging that Club and getting it to whip through they're not nearly as strong as he is but they're getting about the same amount of club head speed with their club shaft is going to take a more force and be released a little bit harder they're going to need a little bit of a stiffer shaft so really comes down to how rhythmatic your swing is so if you're a Fred Couples you're very smooth swing very rhythmic swing you can go get away with a little softer shaft also if you have a tendency to hit a ball that kind of dies out of the air it doesn't get enough backspin on it so it launches and dies and kind of doesn't really float up in the air well then you can get away a little bit of a softer shaft if you're the kind of player that tends to get a lot of backspin on the ball and the shaft is really kicking and spinning up then you're going to need a much stiffer shaft and a much more tip stiff shaft to keep the spin off there so as a good rule of thumb yes it is true the slower you swing in general the softer the shaft you're going to want but is to get a little bit more complex on that a little bit more advanced on that if you have a more aggressive swing if you tend to get more backspin on the ball you're going to want to stiffer shaft if you don't get enough spin on the ball or you have a very smooth swing you can get away with a softer shaft even to people that are swinging the same mile-per-hour there now when we're talking about shafts there's all different price ranges you get from shafts that are that are $60 shafts all the way up to $1,000 shaft shafts do play a little bit of a difference you know you want to get the right flex you want to get overall characteristics of the shaft but most shafts that you're buying in clubs the manufacturers make these for about 5 bucks somewhere around in there 3 to 5 bucks it depends on the company and the shaft that they're going with those are your stock ones that come in there if you want to go with a super premium shaft you know they're getting those for 50 or $60 $75 somewhere in that price range so you're paying a real premium for the shaft you're not going to see a lot of difference in ball flight in different brands of the shaft so if you're playing too Shabs that have the same playing characteristics the same weight the same flex the same stiffness in different parts of shaft it's not going to be a whole lot of difference in there so don't go out and buy an expensive driver with an expensive shaft unless you're really getting fit to that let's talk about the weight of the shaft here for a second so a lighter weight shaft in general you're going to be able to swing harder and you're going to be able to get more distance in more club head speed the light of the shaft is the disadvantage of the lighter shaft is it gets a little bit more whippy and a little bit more kick to it so if a player swings really hard they're going need a bit of a heavier shaft to stabilize that shaft and to get a consistent ball flight ideally in my personal opinion this is just my opinion you're going to want to go with the lighter shaft that you can control and hit consistently very very consistently there are some other factors that would make you want to go to heavier shaft but if you're got tons of power tons of speed and you just want the most consistency the most accuracy that's when you can start just stepping up into heavier white shafts like you see with the pros with 70 and 80 gram shafts they can already swing 120 miles an hour they want that hundred-twenty to go down the middle of the fairway and that's where you see those heavier shafts length of the club big thing here recently if you have a longer Club you're going to generate more club head speed but that doesn't always equate to more distance we've got to be able to hit the ball on the sweet spot what I'd recommend doing is trying out several different lengths drivers if you have that option it's your local Pro Shop try out your standard length then go a little bit longer and see if you're still hitting it straight if you can hit the longer shaft just as straight as a shorter shaft go out and use a longer one that's fine but a lot of times that I find is as the shaft gets longer people get a little bit less consistent they're not hitting the center of the sweet spot every time and even though they're swinging two or three miles an hour faster they're hitting it less solid and actually hitting it 20 or 30 yards shorter so it all depends on the player for that but that's some good you know rule of thumb is longest shaft that you can consistently hit solid and nice and straight that kind of thing for the loft of the club head really what we want what we're looking for here is the highest loft with the lowest spin so if we are a very fast swinger for your generate 120 miles an hour club head speed we're going to get a lot of spin on the ball and if you were to use a 10 11 12 degree lofted driver the balls is going to shoot up in the air and get too much backspin it's going to look like this and then come down versus penetrating through the air so the faster you swing in general the lowest the lower the loft this is a rule of thumb that you're going to need but everybody should be looking for a good driver when you go when you get fit or hitting a driver it's got that nice high launching trajectory and it bores through the wind so it's kind of like an oval shape to your ball rather than doing this if you have if you're not generating enough backspin then it's going to kind of fall out of the sky so use the highest lofted driver that still penetrates through the wind that's what you're going to want to have as far as the loft on there and then finally let's talk about the club head itself I get a lot of questions should I be using a 460 club head I still get some people asking that every once a while no doubt 460cc club head is going to be way more forgiving more distance more consistency all that kind of stuff it's almost crazy to use anything else unless you're just super super elite golfer and even then I don't see any advantage with it so go with the 460 head if you don't already have one that's pretty much all they've made for the last you know ten years pretty much there's a few that are smaller heads out there this will allow you to spread out the weight in the perimeter of the head that way when you hit off the hill or the toe there's more perimeter weighting in that bigger head and that club is going to twist less you're going to get less curvature on the ball and overall better flight because they can move the weight around in the head and then the head itself there aren't a lot of drivers that are longer than other drivers really all you're talking about is spin management so when you hit the ball dead solid in the center with a robot they all pretty much go the same we're looking for with your own individual swing again is to get that ball that launches high and penetrates through the wind and we can only do that if we get the right head for you so some driver heads for example are going to you know I use a driver that's four or five years old I've had the ping i15 forever not a great driver for everybody but it works good for my launching on my spin rights other players may need more spin and they want to go with a different head than this every driver is a little bit different going to get you more or less so again just try them out and see what works best for you if you tend to get a little too much backspin on there there are a few drivers out there that are pretty low spin one of the ones that I know is pretty good for this older drivers i-15 was really good for me the slider driver that TaylorMade came out with is a good driver for the mid launch player that gets no that doesn't need really really low spin I really like the Titleist drivers the newer ones that are out I think those get a good ball fight on there and I like those a lot they feel really nice oh good sound to them so you may want to try that out if that you kind of fall in that category and then if you're very low spin low swing speed player you have a lot of drivers with more loft that are designed to get more backspin and more launch on their more carry for you so hope this helped to answer a couple questions and to pick out that right driver make sure you guys get fitted you have to get fitted to know really what's going to work best for you try a lot of different clubs out try longer shorter ones out try different shaft lengths try different lofts see which one really feels good to you and you're going to have a lot more fun on the golf course good Ballard and in today's video we're going to talk about one of the absolute worst drills for creating lag it's a very common drill that I see and in this drill what we're going to do is we're going to set the wrist very early to create an angle of lag and then we're going to try to hold this throughout the swing it's one of the worst things that you can do to build lag I'm going to talk about the science behind why this is the case and I'm also going to give you a great drill to help you improve your lag all in this video let's go and get some do it this way versus holding that position exact same thing happens when we're building lag in the golf swing so what we want to do is throughout the swing I want to have a very low and wide takeaway so I'm not going to set my wrist early at all if you look at a lot of the top players you look at Adam Scott a very wide take away not very much we're set at all you look at Rory McIlroy you look at Tiger Woods all these players are using a wide take away and not getting very much risk set so that later in the swing as we start down and we can increase this wrist set and we're really only going to max out this angle of lag for a split second in the downswing okay so a three-step drill here now as we get started with this I want to remind you that the fulcrum in this golf club for getting a massive amount of lag is right at the end of the golf club this is where I want my hinge point to be I want to use the full length of this club to build lag and and release lag you
THE COMPLETE FIX YOUR SLICE GUIDE
[Music] guys welcome down to the complete fix your slice guide myself Rick shields PJ got professional he's going to take you through four videos that's gonna help you fix your slice forever let's get rid of that horrible golf shot because it puts us in so much trouble it is unreal and it's such a popular shot to hit and there's reasons behind that let's talk about the idea of slice first and why this happens I'm going to go through a series of videos that are going to help you this is the overview video then we're going to talk about fix your face first then we're going to talk about fix your path and then strike location I'm gonna put the links up here in the corner but please promise me you will not fast-track through this series just going straight to part 4 he's not gonna fix your slice you've got to go through each part separately because each part is incredibly relevant to how you're gonna fix your slice so what what is a slice I mean a slice shot is a curvature that shot and we're gonna talk for riding the golf as a cleric shot that moves off to the right-hand side if you are a left-handed watching feel free to just switch the information around I'm talking about it a shot that curves off to the right it is generally a weak golf shot it generally causes the fact that we don't actually hit the ball very far it puts in so much trouble because we can't allow for it the more we allow for it the more actually slice that ends up happening let's talk about the bones of it first and what actually happens with a slice the simplest way of explaining this is it a clubface at contact aiming further right than the swing path direction so you've got a swing that's going across the golf ball in effectively a diagonal manner and your clubface is more aiming to the right of that line and I don't necessarily mean in aiming further right to target down the fairway here just aiming right of the swing path line now two characteristics together a swing that goes left and a face that aims right can every now and again produce a fantastically straight Dolph shot or certainly a golf shot that hits the fairway don't be mistaken to think if you slice it five times out of 10 it's just a weird movement that you do it's not it's gonna be the same movement it's just at five out of ten shots you've managed to blend those two characteristics in your swing and they've worked together to help you hit the ball straight but they're not gonna last forever you're always going to slice it we need to completely change those characteristics around instead of the face aiming to the right little swinging to the left we need to get the clubface left of our swing direction first then we need to change the path and that's going to be this series of videos once we get the face going left then we can change your path and it's all down to just strike solely that is all it's down to at first what I want you to think about with a slice shot and this this is the first stepping stone to be able to help improve this is I want you to be fully aware the aiming further to the left to allow for a slice is actually only going to fuel the fire it's only going to make you swing further to the left a slice is very easy to fix if we understand the few characteristics that we have to get the face going left of the path first and then we can change the path overview complete jump over to the next video which is up here in the corner and we're going to talk about all about the clubface we need to go clubface left first we need to fix the face first stay tuned we are going to completely cancel out that slice hit the link in the corner to jump over the next video thanks for watching guys if you need to my channel hit that subscribe button it's like say just a bit more of an overview the instruction starts in fix your face video first thanks for watching we'll see you soon
